Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, revealed the initiatives and proposals she submitted to the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Baddah Al-Mutairi, during their meeting, in addition to presenting the Society’s media awareness projects, in continuation of the qualitative communication approach between the Ministry and the Society.
Dr. Al-Aqab noted that she presented to the Minister of Information “the Society’s proposal to form an Environmental Media Committee in the Ministry of Information, which is a special committee to monitor television and radio artistic works and programs related to environmental issues, and to include the Society as a member of the committee, as it has accumulated experience towards environmental issues in the country, in addition to having academics and volunteer environmental experts who have enriched and continue to offer their expertise in all areas of environmental work in the country,” stressing the objectives of the committee in monitoring television works from the environmental side to ensure the inclusion of environmental values and to ensure the safety of the environmental information presented and the absence of environmental violations in the works.
Dr. Al-Aqab continued: “During the meeting, the Minister of Information praised the society’s efforts in producing the documentary series to document wildlife in the State of Kuwait, which was launched in 2014 and is still ongoing. The result was eight successful seasons comprising more than 240 episodes that address the Kuwaiti environment and its elements, transforming science into easy-to-understand television programs that explain the scientific content to all segments of society. These have been previously shown, as the seasons are launched during the Ramadan cycle every year and are repeatedly shown on all channels.”.
She affirmed that “the Ministry of Information’s efforts in media support to spread correct environmental knowledge in society, through the Ministry’s keenness to include quality environmental programs in the Ramadan cycle, which ensures their access to viewers, are appreciated efforts because they contribute to spreading awareness by repeating the broadcast throughout the year and taking the initiative to translate the content into English to increase viewership segments, which raises the level of awareness,” adding: “Today, viewers yearn for this type of program that addresses their environmental surroundings and enhances their connection with it and the safety of their interaction with its elements.”.
She explained that this type of cooperation required the society producing the television work to include the Ministry of Information in the final lineup of its partners in environmental protection, in order to preserve the moral right to the Ministry’s participation in media support and support for the environmental media strategy that the society aspires to develop at the national level.
Dr. Al-Aqab said: “Out of the Minister of Information’s belief in the voluntary efforts and the quality of the awareness-raising media production in the field of the environment, which the society has been unique in for years, the Minister encouraged the honoring of the series and the efforts made in implementing it with this quality,” praising “his response to the society’s proposals and initiatives, whether media or artistic, as well as the consistency of this cooperation with the vision of a new Kuwait in the integration of roles and the lofty speech of His Highness the Emir delivered by the Deputy Emir, His Highness the Crown Prince, regarding the new renaissance and the attention to youth as a main pillar of sustainable development.”.
