Mahmoud Tifouni, treasurer of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, confirmed that, as part of the series of applied workshops included in the 14th season of the “Green Schools” educational awareness program for the current academic year, “the Society organized a workshop on “Preserving and Saving Insects,” with the participation of 22 science teachers and laboratory technicians from schools in the Hawally Educational District, as part of the Society’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness and contribute to developing scientific skills among the various groups targeted by the Green Schools program.”.
Tifoni stated, “A workshop on insect preservation and conservation was held in cooperation with trainer Nour Al-Awmi, a member of the training staff from the Department of Science at the College of Basic Education, who provided participants with practical training on methods of preserving insects using materials such as resin. The workshop also covered a review of the tools used in preserving and their available alternatives.”.
He noted that “organizing the workshop comes within the framework of the ongoing cooperation between the society and the Department of Science at the College of Basic Education, as this cooperation contributes to providing specialized scientific workshops and lectures aimed at supporting science curricula at different educational levels, whether in private or public education,” adding that “the Green Schools Program seeks to provide distinguished scientific content that enhances extracurricular education, and allows students to learn about modern environmental issues through a range of innovative educational materials.”.
For his part, Dr. Qais Majeed, Head of the Science Department at the College of Basic Education in the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, stressed the importance of joint cooperation between academic institutions and environmental activists to spread environmental awareness and transfer science effectively. He explained that such specialized scientific workshops play an important role in supporting education programs by enabling teachers to acquire new skills and use scientific and training tools in laboratories efficiently. He added that “developing teachers” abilities in dealing with modern technologies contributes significantly to improving the quality of science education and enhances students’ understanding of environmental issues and their practical applications in their daily lives.”.
Dr. Qais Majeed noted that the workshop concluded with a presentation of insect samples prepared using preservation techniques, stressing that “the event witnessed great interaction from the participants who showed interest in learning more about the importance of insects in the ecosystem and their vital role in ecological balance.”.
