The Kuwait Environment Protection Society completed its participation in the Red Palace in the second week, with the participation of the Bird Monitoring and Protection Team, the Environmental Youth Team, the Friends of the Environment Team, and the Photography Team of the Society, scientific and applied activities, “an environmental awareness and applied campaign”, dedicated to the people of Al-Jahra Governorate, within the framework of its community celebrations for the opening of the Red Palace, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of preserving migratory birds as an integral part of the local environment.
The head of the bird monitoring and protection team at the society, Muhammad Shah, affirmed “the society’s keenness to spread environmental awareness in Al-Jahra Governorate, and to provide an opportunity for its youth and students to have a green footprint that benefits their community.” He explained that “the event is the result of the society’s cooperation with the governorate in the environmental field to achieve integration in transferring environmental awareness to the community,” praising His Excellency Hamad Al-Habashi, Governor of Al-Jahra, for his keenness to host the society to organize environmental community activities and events for the people of the governorate.
Mohammed Shah pointed out that “the society’s pavilion included an event about migratory and resident birds in the country, presented by the bird monitoring and protection team. It included an overview of the team, an introduction to monitoring, and a display of cameras and bird monitoring equipment to explain the monitoring methods and their occasional difficulty. The team also presented visual presentations via a screen of episodes from the program “Every Day a Bird,” which the society produced as part of the series of documentary programs on wildlife in Kuwait that it launched in 2015 and has been presenting in television episodes for 9 consecutive years.”.
He pointed out that “the activity included a photo exhibition featuring pictures taken by members of the Society’s bird monitoring and protection team in more than one location within the State of Kuwait of migratory birds such as eagles, cormorants, terns, owls, and others, and other paintings by Samira Al-Khalifa, head of the Society’s photography team, in addition to a display of some monitoring equipment and tools and how to camouflage birds.“.
