Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, called for “supporting Arab initiatives to enable civil society organizations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, based on the interconnectedness of the environment with most of these goals, affecting and being affected by them, which necessitates ensuring the integration of the environment into all aspects of sustainable development.”.
This came on the sidelines of her signing, on behalf of the association, a memorandum of understanding with the Wildlife Society of the sisterly State of Palestine, which was signed by its Executive Director, Dr. Imad Al-Atrash, on behalf of its President, Dr. Sami Elias Thaljieh. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Janan Behzad, a member of the Board of Directors of the Environment Society.
Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab noted that “the agreement aims to develop the relationship in several activities with the Palestinian Wildlife Protection Society, which will include in the future working on capacity building in the field of environment, development and environmental awareness, environmental survey of wildlife and important bird areas, as well as knowledge support in consulting, research and environmental studies, in addition to participating in media campaigns on social media sites for conferences and programs of the two societies.”.
For his part, Dr. Imad Al-Atrash, Executive Director of the Wildlife Society in the State of Palestine, explained that “this step came as a result of previous understandings and to develop the capabilities of the two societies in several aspects,” noting that “this agreement is the first for wildlife with an Arab Gulf state and we are proud of this step.”.
He explained that “the agreement promotes and supports joint environmental research publication, the exchange of data related to the subject of the agreement, in addition to joint cooperation in launching joint environmental programs and projects, as well as working to support the Sustainable Development Goals, in a message to society that we have the right, responsibility and opportunity to change for the better environmentally.”.
On the sidelines of the signing of the agreement, Professor Imad Al-Atrash presented the “Al-Aqsa Shield” handcrafted with the fragrance of Jerusalem, in the presence of Janan Behzad, member of the Board of Directors of the Environment Association, and Dr. Ibrahim Al-Khader, Director of BirdLife International in the Middle East.
