The Kuwait Environment Protection Society announced that the community environmental participation plan of its Youth Environment Team and Friends of the Environment Team is included in its program of multiple and varied activities for its golden jubilee and the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1974.
In this context, Abdullah Al-Tamimi, head of the Youth Environmental Team at the society, pointed out that the team's activities aim to prepare its members for volunteer environmental work, as well as providing them with community-based field preparation as a prerequisite for assuming environmental responsibility in the future. He noted that the activities also include an organizational dimension to diversify skills and comprehensively gather experiences. He added, "Through these activities, we introduce our role as young people in preparation, organization, and management, especially as university students who recognize the importance of our community awareness role and the need to invest our time in serving the community.".
Al-Tamimi stated that the field participations of the “Youth Environmental Team” enhance the society’s standing in the community, in addition to spreading environmental awareness among young people about the importance of employing their talents and abilities towards protecting and sustaining the environment and encouraging them to participate in various environmental community activities, in addition to contributing to achieving the society’s goals in the field of social responsibility and its development. He explained that these participations are also suitable opportunities to reach a wide segment of society, especially the student and youth sectors, to learn about the team’s areas of work and its awareness projects, which encourages attracting new members to join and engage in the team’s journey. He pointed out that the pavilions participating in conferences and scientific exhibitions receive great popularity and a large turnout for the acquisition of the publications that are distributed.
For her part, Misk Al-Muharib, a member of the Friends of the Environment team at the society, affirmed that “participating in related exhibitions provides opportunities to learn presentation skills and communication skills with the public, and these skills are important for us in our university life in the future.” She explained that in these activities, the team provides environmental explanations, introduces the society, and distributes digital “bookmark” cards containing several digital “QR” tags for the documentary series documenting wildlife in Kuwait, the Environment Magazine, and the website of the Environmental Protection Society, as well as distributing the society’s publications.
Al-Muharib noted the tangible results of the team's field community engagement in various related events, which yielded significant outcomes. These included inquiries from young people about joining the team and the society, requests to purchase publications, and discussions about the society's programs and activities. She pointed out that the team's booth at the 2024 Student Talents and Innovation Forum and Exhibition, recently held at Kuwait University, attracted hundreds of students over the two days of the event, further strengthening the team's youth and student activities.
