The Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection praised the environmental standards and requirements of the Al-Zour refinery, whose opening was sponsored and attended by His Highness the Emir of the country, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God protect and preserve him.<\/p>\n
In its press release, the Environment Protection Association considered that \u201cAl-Zour Refinery is one of the most prominent and important projects of the development plan in Kuwait, and one of the main pillars of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation\u2019s 2040 strategic plan, which seeks to produce high-quality petroleum derivatives that comply with global environmental standards and requirements, in addition to its role in supplying local power generation stations with their needs of clean fuel, to meet the increasing demand for electricity as a result of population growth and urban expansion in the country.\u201d.<\/p>\n
She noted that \u201cAl-Zour Refinery is an integrated environmental system. In addition to raising the refining capacity of the country\u2019s refineries from 800,000 barrels per day to 1.415 million barrels per day, it is designed to be able to use treated water for industrial and irrigation purposes. It also has special stations for monitoring and tracking air quality, in addition to using advanced furnaces and boilers to reduce emissions, within the framework of an integrated environmental system aimed at environmental control and monitoring.\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Kuwait Environment Protection Society explained in its statement that \u201cthe refinery demonstrates the keenness of the oil sector in the State of Kuwait to keep pace with all that is new in this vital industry, and to play an active and influential role within global efforts in the field of energy transition, to contribute to facing the challenges of climate change, and protecting the environment, in order to fulfill Kuwait\u2019s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.\u201c The Society stressed that \u201dthe Al-Zour refinery is consistent with one of the environmental goals in the State of Kuwait with regard to improving air quality by reducing emissions of sulfur oxides emitted from power generation plants, where the rate of emissions will decrease by 75 percent compared to the current situation.\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, in its statement reviewing the most prominent green environmental features of the Al-Zour Refinery, affirmed that it \u201cworks on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) in all aspects of the Kuwaiti oil sector\u2019s work environment, reflecting the investment in significant resources to ensure the creation of a safe workplace for both workers in the sector and the environment. In addition, strict safety procedures are followed, which are carefully instilled in the community culture to create a level of awareness and thus reduce risks. It also contributes to environmental safety through the recycling and reuse of wastewater, controlling emissions and monitoring ambient air using special systems, in addition to using smoke-free and low-noise flares.\u201d.<\/p>\n
The association concluded its statement by emphasizing that \u201cthe availability of environmentally friendly fuel does not negate our role as citizens and residents in reducing emissions through the optimal use of fuel and not overconsuming the electricity produced by this fuel. The availability of green environmentally friendly fuel does not mean that we should give free rein to waste electrical energy, which necessitates raising the level of environmental awareness to ensure the desired goals are achieved.\u201d The association announced that it \u201cwill continue its awareness programs on all levels \u2013 written, visual, and audio \u2013 and activities and events to raise awareness of the importance of rationalizing the consumption of electrical energy to make the most of it, as an active participation in supporting the state\u2019s general direction in this regard.\u201d.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
