The bird monitoring and protection team at the Kuwait Environment Protection Society announced that it has prepared a field action plan for the European hoopoe bird on Bubiyan Island, in preparation for its launch soon, in conjunction with conducting scientific research on the bird\u2019s habitats, environments and ways to preserve it.<\/p>\n
Team leader Mahmoud Shehab told KUNA yesterday that team members discussed a work plan concerning the Common Crane on Bubiyan Island during their regular monthly meeting, along with a review of the scientific research prepared for that plan. Shehab added that the meeting participants also reviewed the work plan for the annual qualitative and technical report on migratory and resident birds in the country for 2011.<\/p>\n
He explained that the meeting witnessed many qualitative activities, including the screening of two documentary films, one of which was about the country\u2019s native plants, their types, locations, and rare ones. The film lasted about thirty minutes. In addition, there was another film about birds of prey that were seen in the country in large numbers, exceeding 1,500 birds, which is unusual. He pointed out that this rare case \u00abattracted the attention of the bird watchers in the association, who documented it for scientific study.\u00bb.<\/p>\n
Shehab revealed that Nancy Papathana, a founding member of the Cypriot organization Biodiversity East, attended and participated in a large part of the monthly meeting of the bird team, "where she learned about its activities and achievements, as well as the team's specialized photographers whose photos she used in bird monitoring, including Rashid Al-Hajji and Mohammed Khurshid, in the recently published photo book (Birds of Kuwait)." He pointed out that the team discussed with Papathana international environmental laws related to the protection of birds and wildlife.<\/p>\n
