Environmental Society: Launching the tenth season of the educational awareness program \u201cGreen Schools\u201d<\/p>\n
The Kuwait Environment Protection Society announced the launch of the tenth season of its educational awareness program \u201cGreen Schools\u201d through the e-learning system and virtual classrooms.<\/p>\n
Janan Behzad, Secretary General of the Association and Director of Programs and Activities, affirmed that \u201cthe launch of the e-learning program as part of the Green Schools program in its tenth edition complements the program\u2019s role in raising awareness and scientific training to help ensure the continuity of education and training activities through a wide range of learning materials available on the Internet and through digital tools to serve various educational purposes. Through the first e-learning program, we seek to support and develop the learner and access environmental information that is not available in educational curricula.\u201d.<\/p>\n
Behzad pointed out that \u201cthis electronic version will focus on topics such as solid and household waste management, energy and its provision, water conservation, climate change, biodiversity (birds, native plants, protected areas, marine biodiversity), and last but not least, the Kuwaiti Environmental Protection Law,\u201c noting that \u201da green school is a school that preserves the environment and its components, encourages environmental work, and spreads awareness and culture through environmental programs organized between the student and the teaching staff, and that working in the green school is a task that the entire school must undertake, and it is directed at students, teachers, parents, and officials.\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe school closures that have been ongoing since last February have highlighted the role of e-learning, which required the closure of schools to respond to it. Hence came the social responsibility to provide free educational materials through social media sites to ensure their access to parents, alleviate anxiety, and answer children\u2019s and students\u201d questions, which placed a double burden on the family in light of the circumstances beyond our control. An effective response to this emergency situation must include parents who need the resources, tools, and support to perform this role effectively.\u201d.<\/p>\n
She emphasized that \u201cthe Green Schools Program initially partnered with the Target for Green organization, which held a series of seminars titled 'Beyond COP21' to raise awareness about sustainable consumption and climate change science. The association's participation was the first of its kind in Kuwait, delivering an awareness lecture to middle and high school students, alongside seven other countries (the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Kenya, Ghana, and Jordan). The aim of these partnerships is to enhance young people's knowledge of the Kuwaiti environment, combine local cultural awareness with regional and international environmental awareness, particularly regarding climate change science and sustainable consumption, increase young people's opportunities for educational experiences outside of school, and encourage young students to participate in social activities as part of their daily lives.\u201c.<\/p>\n
She noted that the awareness program episodes (Every Day a Bird, Every Day a Plant, Every Day a Yale, and Every Day a Picnic in its two parts) have been included in the Green E-Learning Program because of the numerous non-scientific and educational objectives of the episodes. They promote the instilling of environmental citizenship values through implicit scenes in the episodes that are repeated daily in a different way so that the citizen becomes enthusiastic and aware of important environmental issues and responsible for preserving the environment and its natural and unnatural components to respond to all the challenges it faces in the present and future. She announced that \u201cthe association has produced educational materials through its programs over the past five years, which is a free educational platform that serves various educational purposes and connects the learner with information that is not available in school. It is the culmination of field trips and professional experiences of volunteers in various environmental fields. The educational materials are available on the association\u2019s YouTube channel and are a contribution to ensuring the continuity of education and training activities from home. They are specifically aimed at helping parents, for whom the task of scientific review has become a great burden in the new educational system with students now at home.\u201d.<\/p>\n
Janan Behzad pointed out that \u201cthe monitoring and filming of the episodes took place in many locations covering a wide area of land and sea from the north of Kuwait to its south, including islands, nature reserves and restricted border areas on the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border. It showed the extent of the beauty and splendor of our natural environment, and it is thus a complete illustrated educational curriculum that carries within it an awareness message about the Environmental Protection Law No. 42\/2014 and some of its provisions amended by Law No. 99\/2015 and the executive regulations to enhance the role of laws and legislation on which the citizen relies in knowing his rights and duties.\u201d.<\/p>\n
She emphasized that \u201cthe Green Schools Program participated at the beginning of this week with the Target for Green organization, which held a series of seminars entitled Beyond COP21 to raise awareness of sustainable consumption and climate change science, noting that Peter Milne, the founder and director of the program, has more than 25 years of experience as a teacher, environmental coordinator, workshop leader and educational consultant, and has worked in schools around the world on global citizenship, climate change and sustainable education.\u201d.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
