The Kuwait Environment Protection Society, through its board member Jenan Behzad, announced the conclusion of the \u201cSecond Arab Environmental Training Program,\u201d which the Society organized virtually for a month. The program was attended by 403 participants representing government agencies, civil organizations, universities, institutes, scientific and research centers, and volunteer groups from 18 Arab countries. It was organized by the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Environmental Training at the Society, with the support of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, on the occasion of the national holidays. The program included participants from various scientific disciplines, with the largest percentage being university graduates and specialists holding university degrees and postgraduate studies, at a rate exceeding 89%.<\/p>\n
Janan Behzad, the Director of Programs and Activities at the Association, added that \u201cKnowledge and Challenges of Climate Change\u201d was the subject of the fourth session, presented by Janan Behzad. It addressed carbon data and climate models of climate change and its effects, and different paths of potential emissions leading us to the year 2100, with scenarios of variables and possible outcomes from readings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports. She pointed out that climate changes in the oceans were presented in detail, including how they occur, such as: increasing sea surface temperature and the heat content of ocean waters (marine species and sensitive ecosystems; temperature plays a key role in many biological processes, such as reproduction and migration), rising sea levels due to the thermal expansion of the ocean due to warming, in addition to water from melting glaciers and ice sheets (coastal flooding, increased storm penetration in coastal areas, and saltwater intrusion from aquifers).<\/p>\n
Behzad stated: \u201cThe training provided solutions for adaptation and mitigation from various aspects,\u201c noting that \u201dthere are many facts that the training addressed. For example, even if we stopped emitting greenhouse gases today, it will take several hundred years before the majority of human emissions are removed from the atmosphere. Strict measures must be taken, and there are many possibilities for reducing emissions in the key sectors of our economies. There are many social and technological solutions, and they need to be scaled up.
