The \u201cGreen Schools\u201d program of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, as part of its fourteenth consecutive season, organized an applied workshop entitled \u201cPreserving Insect Samples by Preservation and Resin,\u201d at Khabbab Bin Al-Art Primary School for Boys and Arwa Bint Al-Harith Primary School for Girls, in cooperation with Professor Nour Al-Awmi, a member of the training staff in the Science Department at the College of Basic Education, with the participation of science teachers and distinguished male and female students in the science subject from different schools.<\/p>\n
In this regard, Engineer Abdulaziz Al-Muhanna, a member of the Board of Directors of the Association, stated that the training workshops presented by trainer Nour Al-Awmi are a continuation of the cooperation between the Association and the Department of Science at the College of Basic Education to provide scientific lectures and specialized workshops that support the science curricula at all educational levels in public and private schools. The program offers a summary of the experiences of researchers in various scientific fields to meet and ensure the continuity of extracurricular education through a wide range of learning materials available for environmental awareness for school students and young people.<\/p>\n
For his part, Dr. Qais Majeed, Head of the Science Department at the College of Basic Education, confirmed that the program provides an effective model that combines in-person presentations at schools and field visits to science laboratories with specialized electronic workshops via Zoom technology, in addition to the role of the scientific department in raising awareness, training, and providing support to teachers and graduates of the College of Basic Education in the Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n
Dr. Qais Majeed added: \u201cThe study of insects is interesting to scientists and animal breeders alike, given their different shapes, sizes and colors. They also play a vital role in ecological balance, as they are an important source of food for many other organisms such as birds and mammals, in addition to being an important source of many substances beneficial to humans such as honey and silk. While some species cause damage to agricultural crops or diseases to humans, despite that, they form an integral part of the balance of the ecosystem and life on planet Earth.\u201d.<\/p>\n
Regarding the importance of insects and the need to conserve them, Engineer Abdulaziz Al-Muhanna emphasized their crucial role in the ecosystem. They contribute to plant pollination by transferring pollen between flowers, leading to fruit and seed development. Furthermore, some insects, such as caterpillars and worms, play a vital role in the decomposition of organic waste, converting it into nutrients for plants and bacteria. Insects are also a significant food source for many other organisms, including birds, reptiles, and mammals, making them an integral part of the food chain. They are essential to maintaining ecological balance and have a profound impact on the environment and the life within it.<\/p>\n
Engineer Abdulaziz Al-Muhanna explained that the scientific workshop and the accompanying dialogue discussions included identifying the tools used in the preservation process and their alternatives, and training on preparing distinctive samples with the participation of learners and the assistance of teachers.
