The Kuwait Environment Protection Society, through its founder and head of the Environmental Engineers Team, Environmental Engineer Sarah Al-Ramzi, affirmed that the Civil Service Commission\u2019s inclusion and adoption of the title \u201cEnvironmental Engineer\u201d among 6 other job titles recently announced, during the workshop \u201cThe New Mechanism for Civil Service Commission Nominations for Engineering Titles,\u201d is undoubtedly a giant step in the path of green jobs in the State of Kuwait, which is consistent with the concept of \u00abgreen jobs\u00bb that includes more than 20 specializations, which many countries around the world have moved towards dedicating themselves to, whether in their university studies or in providing jobs for graduates of those specializations, and which is consistent with the Society\u2019s efforts in many previous meetings with officials of the Commission and environmental events and activities over the past 10 years.<\/p>\n
The founder and head of the Environmental Engineers Team at the Environmental Protection Association, Eng. Sarah Al-Ramzi, explained that \u00abthe association started early, about ten years ago, to highlight these specializations through the \u201cGreen Schools\u201d program through its awareness and educational sessions for eleventh and twelfth grade students to encourage and prepare them to embark on university studies specializing in the environment, which we have often called for establishing and activating, through comprehensive preparation and awareness of issues with a societal dimension that students interact with.\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe association has previously called on the Civil Service Bureau to expedite the creation of job titles for environmental specializations within the public service system and not to replace them with what is already in place, and to define them and present them to ministries and authorities to include them in their employment plans, which are consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and the New Kuwait Vision.\u201d.<\/p>\n
She pointed out that \u201cthis trend and this demand were justified and supported by Article 119 of the Environment Law No. 42 of 2014 and amended by Law No. 99 of 2015, regarding the establishment of environmental departments in ministries and government institutions and their role in implementing the law and avoiding environmental violations and transgressions.\u201d She added: \u201cIn reality, some government agencies had already begun to establish such departments, but this new system lacked job titles for graduates of environmental specializations, such as graduates of environmental science and environmental engineering, who would return from their study missions only to find that there was no place for them in the Civil Service Bureau system. This resulted in the lack of a clear job description to accommodate such specializations, causing a wave of frustration for students who had met the needs of the labor market by studying rare specializations for future green jobs.\u201d.<\/p>\n
Ms. Sarah Al-Ramzi concluded by \u201ccongratulating the specialists on the adoption of the Environmental Engineering specialization and the title of Environmental Engineer in the Civil Service Bureau at last, so that engineers can begin their careers serving our mother Kuwait, which embraced her sons and encouraged them to study this new specialization within the higher education system, which had a keen vision towards the scientific and professional need for such a specialization.
