The Kuwait Environment Protection Society emphasized \u201cthe importance and positivity of consumer behaviors in Kuwaiti society, with a focus on extravagance during the month of Ramadan, and presented innovative technological solutions to address it.\u201d This came during its participation, represented by its member, Professor Nawaf Al-Muwail, in a distinguished lecture on the green economy and reducing extravagance using artificial intelligence, at the Kuwait Diwaniya Ramadan Evenings event for the year 2025, which was organized by the Kuwait Program for Social Responsibility, affiliated with the Regional Network for Social Responsibility, in cooperation with the Sustainable Development Endowment, under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Information and Culture, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, and chaired by Dr. Shehab Al-Othman, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Kuwait Program for Social Responsibility, while the organizing committee was chaired by Advisor Khalida Al-Kharraz, the UN Commissioner for the Promotion of the United Nations Goals.<\/p>\n
During the lecture, Nawaf Al-Muwail pointed to \u201cthe results of a research study conducted by the association, which aimed to measure environmental awareness regarding Sustainable Development Goal 12, with the participation of 212 citizens and residents in Kuwait. The study showed that 57% of the participants who set a budget for their purchases exceed it in spending, especially during Ramadan and special occasions, reflecting the need for practical solutions to reduce excessive consumption.\u201d.<\/p>\n
He explained that \u201cexcessive shopping, food, water, energy and time pose environmental and economic challenges, as large quantities of food products, clothes and sweets are purchased due to offers and discounts, leading to a waste of money and resources. The irrational use of water and energy also contributes to increasing environmental burdens, especially with the increased demand during events.\u201d.<\/p>\n
A member of the Environmental Society presented a range of solutions based on artificial intelligence and smart technologies to reduce waste, including: \u201cUsing smart applications to prepare shopping lists in advance, which helps reduce unnecessary spending; activating smart water sensors to reduce flow when not needed; using applications to monitor household consumption; implementing smart home systems such as Google Nest for automatic control of lighting and air conditioning, which contributes to reducing energy consumption; and organizing time using applications such as Screen Time and Google Assistant to set daily priorities and reduce wasted time in front of screens.\u201d.<\/p>\n
