Janan Behzad, Secretary General of the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, stressed the importance of enhancing the capabilities of researchers and activating cooperation between academic and environmental institutions as a fundamental step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. This came on the sidelines of the scientific visit organized by the Department of Science at the College of Basic Education of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training in cooperation with the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Specialized Environmental Training affiliated with the Society for a delegation of researchers and faculty members from the department to the laboratories of Kuwait University, in order to enhance academic cooperation and exchange experiences in the fields of environmental and applied research.<\/p>\n
Behzad explained that \u201cthe visit aimed to learn about the advanced research capabilities provided by the National Unit for Environmental Research and Services (NUERS), where researchers were introduced to the advanced analytical equipment and facilities available to serve researchers and graduate students, in addition to reviewing joint research cooperation projects with local and regional entities, and the advisory role that the unit plays in supporting national environmental policies.\u201d.<\/p>\n
She noted the importance of this visit, saying, \u201cLinking academic efforts with practical environmental experiences is one of our priorities in the association, as we are keen, through the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Environmental Training affiliated with the association, to enhance the research capabilities of members of educational institutions, and create real opportunities for cooperation with national research centers, which contributes to supporting specialized environmental training and achieving the best scientific achievements in cooperation with the competent authorities that support the field of scientific research.\u201d.<\/p>\n
In this context, Dr. Qais Majeed, Head of the Science Department at the College of Basic Education, stated: \u201cThis visit comes within the framework of our keenness to open new horizons for our students and fellow researchers to learn about advanced research experiences and to become acquainted with the latest technologies in the field of environmental analysis, which contributes to enriching applied scientific research and developing environmental education curricula.\u201d.<\/p>\n
Dr. Qais Majeed stated, \u201cScientific research has become the cornerstone of any effective and sustainable response to the escalating environmental challenges facing the region. Universities and national research centers are the primary incubators for producing applied environmental knowledge, through developing measurement and monitoring tools, understanding the dynamics of ecosystems, and proposing data-driven scientific solutions. Such scientific visits contribute to transferring this role from the laboratory to the classroom, and then to the reality of environmental policies and practices in Kuwait.\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cEnvironmental scientific research is also a pivotal tool in addressing contemporary climate challenges, as it contributes to generating accurate and evidence-based knowledge about the causes and effects of climate change, and proposing appropriate adaptive and mitigation solutions. It also contributes to providing decision-makers with the scientific information necessary to formulate effective environmental policies and develop sustainable technologies in the fields of water, energy, agriculture, and biodiversity protection.
