Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society and Chair of the National Standing Committee of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), announced the election of Dr. Matra Al-Mutairi, a member of the committee and a researcher at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), as a regional advisor for West Asia to the IUCN. She noted the success of the National Committee's efforts in supporting her election, securing votes for her, and communicating with numerous heads of national committees within the IUCN, as well as experts and influential figures, to garner support for her candidacy. Dr. Al-Aqab emphasized, "Negotiations and alliances with a large number of government entities, through the Environment Public Authority (EPA), the IUCN's focal point, and through our relationships with Arab and international civil society organizations, as well as the Kuwait Environment Protection Society's connections with various entities, culminated in the successful nomination of Dr. Matra Al-Mutairi from KISR to this prestigious scientific position and international forum."
