The effects of pollution on the oceans are numerous, the most important of which are the death of marine life and the disruption of the ecosystem and balance in the oceans. The most significant pollutants entering the oceans are oil and its derivatives, especially plastic. Recent studies indicate that the amount of plastic in the oceans currently exceeds 150 million tons, with approximately 12 million tons added every year. It is well known that plastic does not decompose easily and remains suspended in ocean waters or deposited on the seabed for up to 600 years or more.\u201c Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab stated, \u201dI urge citizens and residents to be keen on protecting and preserving beaches and enjoying the beauty of nature while adhering to the principles of environmental sustainability. When shopping for barbecue or picnic supplies, it is preferable to use reusable cloth bags instead of plastic bags. It is also advisable to use disposable plates instead of single-use plastic products. After finishing recreational activities, care should be taken to clean the area and not leave any waste on the beach, which contributes to preserving the marine environment.\u201c Dr. Al-Aqab added, Al-Aqab emphasized \u201cthe importance of the international community\u2019s attention to what is currently happening in the Arabian Gulf region, where this shallow, semi-enclosed body of water is being affected by repeated oil and petroleum pollution incidents due to the current situation. This necessitates stressing the application of regional and international laws to protect this body of water, safeguarding its natural components and the lives of the people around it who depend on it for their water and food security. Approximately 201 TP3T of pollutants and waste in seas and oceans originate from accidents and violations within the sea and oceans, the most dangerous of which are oil spills. The effects of wars and military conflicts are no less severe and damaging to the marine environment.\u201d She explained that \u201cWorld Oceans Day highlights the importance of these bodies of water and their direct impact on life on planet Earth.
