Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society and Secretary-General of the Environment and Sustainable Development Secretariat at the Arab Producers Union, revealed that a meeting of national coordinators of the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) was held in Kuwait. The meeting included coordinators from five Arab countries: Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the best ways to achieve the goals of the first Arab Environmental Media Conference, which was recently held in Kuwait, and to review and address its recommendations after a dialogue session with all conference participants.<\/p>\n
\nAl-Aqab explained that the meeting, which was held under her chairmanship, included, in addition to herself, 5 national coordinators of the Arab Network for Environment and Development \u201cRaed\u201d, adding: The participants in the meeting from Lebanon were Engineer Marie Therese Merhej Seif, President of the Human Association for Environment and Development and West Asia representative of civil society in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Vice President of the Lebanese Green Party, Engineer Malek Ghandour, President of the Amwaj Al-Biaa Association and President of the Lebanese Gathering for Environmental Protection, from Iraq Engineer Saadia Hassoun, President of the Together for the Protection of the Environment and Human, from Jordan Engineer Hayel Al-Amoush, Director General of the Good Earth Association for Development and Environment, and from Yemen Dr. Yasser Baazab, National Coordinator of Raed in Yemen, President of the Ibdaa Foundation for Environment and Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n
\nShe noted that the meeting discussed the most prominent joint programs and activities that the network, through its national coordinators, looks forward to implementing, either as a single activity for a national coordinator within the country or through a joint work program that includes national coordinators in one of the member states, pointing out that the scientific and applied recommendations for Arab environmental media were discussed.<\/p>\n
The head of the Environment Association indicated that one of the most important recommendations is to train media personnel specializing in the environmental field and who are familiar with using media tools to present environmental issues clearly and transparently. This can be achieved through courses, workshops, conferences, and forums. Furthermore, it is crucial to highlight in the media the importance of preserving the cultural, civilizational, and natural heritage of countries from destruction and looting during wars and conflicts, under the supervision of relevant international organizations. Additionally, there is a need for genuine partnerships between the government, civil society, companies, research centers, local universities, and international organizations regarding environmental media. This can be accomplished through signing memoranda of understanding that contribute to knowledge exchange and joint coordination between various media outlets and civil society organizations related to the environmental field. It is also essential to give greater prominence to environmental issues in all media outlets and to provide sustainable support to environmental civil society organizations to increase their effectiveness and efficiency in communicating with local communities in order to raise environmental awareness among Arab citizens.<\/p>\n
\nWajdan Al-Aqab indicated that the meeting also discussed recommendations that included ways and means to benefit from successful experiences and practices in the field of environmental media in developed countries through international conferences and exhibitions, documenting successful environmental work experiences and initiatives in the Arab world, distinguishing and investing in them, as well as adapting environmental media to play its role in highlighting the dangers of environmental pollution as it transcends the borders of countries and continents, and the need to intensify media efforts on the importance and dimensions of the effects of wars and conflicts on the environment, with a focus on peacebuilding programs in order to create a culture of solving problems through dialogue instead of war through balanced and conscious environmental media, and raising media awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals and informing the Arab citizen of their importance to his life and future so that he becomes an essential part of the system of implementing and achieving them.<\/p>\n
\nAl-Aqab reported that the attendees discussed ways and the importance of supporting the General Secretariat for Environment and Sustainable Development as a specialized and conscious environmental media platform, as an effective tool for raising community awareness of the importance of the environmental situation and environmental behavior, and guiding all groups and segments in Kuwait to learn about and respect environmental law under a strong joint umbrella between the Authority, the Association, the media, and others, as well as creating conscious environmental media in all languages for all members of society, documenting the impact of refugees on the environment and natural resources, and raising awareness of crisis and disaster management in general, in addition to transparency in presenting efforts and results in the media through environmental media in a way that achieves raising the level of collective awareness among all groups and segments of society.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
