The association: The specialized technical team has finalized the Ministry of Justice's amendments to the environmental law and submitted its recommendations.

The Kuwait Environment Protection Society announced that the specialized technical team has completed preparing the amendments to the articles included in the observations of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Justice regarding the Environmental Protection Law, especially those that face difficulties in their implementation. The team was headed by Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Society, and included retired Major General Hussein Al-Ajmi, former Director of the Environmental Police and founder and head of the Environmental Lawyer Center at the Kuwaiti Lawyers Association, and environmental engineer Yousef Abdul-Redha Al-Ramzi, the official spokesperson and Vice President of the Society’s Environmental Engineers Team.

Dr. Al-Aqab noted that “the association is closely linked to the Kuwaiti Environmental Protection Law No. (42) of 2014, amended by Law No. (99) of 2015, which is a qualitative leap in environmental legislation in the country, and its implementation is supervised by the Environment Public Authority, as the association, through its staff and experts, participated in developing and drafting many of its articles included in its chapters and sections,” pointing out that “the law includes 9 chapters that include 181 articles covering various environmental fields (development, air, water, soil, and biodiversity).

She highlighted the association's contributions to developing and drafting articles that align with the country's environmental needs and realities, aiming to achieve the highest standards of environmental management. She also noted the association's technical contributions to over 701 TP3T amendments to various articles and clauses within the law. Furthermore, she emphasized the association's vital role as a strategic partner of the Environment Public Authority, raising public awareness through campaigns and educational workshops to explain the provisions of the Environmental Protection Law and its implementing regulations. She also mentioned the association's monitoring and follow-up efforts, including receiving citizen complaints and contributing to the identification and reporting of environmental violations to the relevant judicial and administrative authorities.

She emphasized that “the association has previously launched many meetings, workshops, lectures and specialized campaigns concerned with contributing to the presentation of the law’s materials to the community in a methodology that is compatible with the cultures, behaviors and views of all segments of society, through introducing this law as the (Green Law), which was presented by an elite group of experts and researchers of the association in the form of open workshops and practical and field applications that consolidate the details and outputs of the articles and clauses included in the law.”.

The head of the Environment Association stressed “the importance of all entities and institutions, as well as individuals in the country, striving to acquire legal awareness regarding the provisions of the law as a guarantee to avoid its deterrent penalties, not to mention the positive environmental impact on the dimensions and aspects of the environment in Kuwait.”.
