“The Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection announced its support for the “Summit Truce” initiative proposed by the Republic of Azerbaijan, the chair of the United Nations Framework Conference on Climate Change “COP 29,” scheduled to be held in the capital, Baku, from November 11-22,” said Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Society, during her meeting with the Azerbaijani Ambassador, Emil Karimov, at his office in the embassy.
During the meeting, Dr. Al-Aqab explained that the “Summit Truce” proposed by the Republic of Azerbaijan is a global call for a ceasefire starting one week before the 29th Conference of the Parties and ending one week after, so that the truce would be between November 4 and 29. She emphasized to Ambassador Karimov that the initiative is consistent with the ”International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict – November 6,“ an initiative proposed by the Environment Protection Society and adopted by Kuwaiti diplomacy, leading to its adoption as a UN resolution.
She stated that the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection is an accredited member with the status of observer in the Blue Sector of the United Nations Climate Change Convention – COP 29, which is dedicated to governments, agencies and official delegations, adding that she discussed with Ambassador Emil Karimov the possibility of the embassy arranging an environmental awareness trip for members of the Society during the climate summit to environmental entities and institutions in the Republic of Azerbaijan, in addition to addressing several environmental issues of common interest.
