The Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection awarded its “Environmental Excellence” medal to the Chief of the General Fire Force, Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Makrad, and its “Environmental Heroism” medal to the Deputy Chief of the General Fire Force for the Combat Sector, Major General Jamal Al-Blihais, as part of the Society’s celebrations of the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflicts.
Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Association, said that awarding the Chief of the General Fire Force, Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Makrad, the Association’s Medal for Environmental Excellence comes as a continuation of the civil society’s honoring and appreciation of fire directors since the beginning of its national journey for their sincere roles and dedication to giving and giving in this humanitarian work. She pointed out that awarding the “Environmental Heroism” medal to the Deputy Chief of the General Fire Force for the Combat Sector, Major General Jamal Al-Blihais, is a continuation of honoring the firefighting team of the General Fire Department at that time, which participated in extinguishing the burning oil wells that were set ablaze by the brutal Iraqi occupation, alongside the well firefighting team of the Kuwait Oil Company. She noted that they “were absent from the honoring ceremony organized by the Association for the well firefighting team of the General Fire Department last year because they were on duty, appreciating their great national efforts.”.
Dr. Al-Aqab stated that “the Society’s celebrations of the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, which falls on November 6th of each year, are the responsibility of the State of Kuwait. The Society, in cooperation with the relevant authorities in the country and civil society organizations, adopts this responsibility. From this standpoint, the Environment Society decided to extend the campaign to raise awareness of this international day throughout the month of November, in accordance with the recommendation of the Second Arab Environmental Media Conference, by documenting the efforts of Arab countries in raising awareness of this day on an Arab scale in the Environment Magazine.” She added: “The Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection’s interest in the General Fire Force stems from the desire to strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the two parties and in appreciation of the great attention to the environment shown by firefighters while performing their duty in reducing environmental damage during firefighting, despite the difficulty of accidents and fires. We thank them for their dedication. Moreover, the presence of the environment in the General Fire Force’s logo for years reflects a sincere concern for our environment.”.
