As part of its participation in the “Urban and Rural Development” week at Expo 2020 Dubai, the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection continued its awareness plan with a campaign to raise awareness of the International Day for Preventing the Use of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, through extending the campaign in a location that provides communication with other countries and the possibility of reaching awareness to countries around the world by taking advantage of the international gathering provided by Expo Dubai 2020.
In front of a remarkable audience, board member and delegation member Khaled Al-Kaabi presented a lecture to visitors of the State of Kuwait’s pavilion entitled “The Role of Civil Society in Announcing the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflicts – November 6, and an Environmental Overview of the Effects of Scorched Earth.”.
In his lecture, Al-Kaabi revealed the efforts of the Environmental Protection Society in raising awareness in this regard, saying, “In recent years, the Society has been carrying out the task of raising awareness of the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflicts through the launch of the awareness campaign on November 6, 2017, as the State of Kuwait is internationally responsible for raising awareness of this day according to the UN resolution. The founder of the campaign, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Society, Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, invited national leaders to a grand ceremony that brought together national parties who had heroic and diplomatic imprints in the success of the adoption of this international day. The celebration was also documented on social media channels to remain a living material throughout the year, to be used in awareness and education.”.
He stated, “The association’s efforts extend to organizing workshops and scientific and technical lectures by specialists to all segments of society to introduce and raise awareness of the effects of wars and international efforts to rebuild and repair the environment as a result of the environmental deterioration caused by wars on the environment and its natural and unnatural components.” He pointed to the “role of awareness - education and training” axis, where the association completed its awareness role through the Green Schools program to deliver environmental education and community awareness to school students and the teaching staff in public and private education schools by including the topic of extinguishing wells and introducing the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflicts.
Khaled Al-Kaabi, a member of the board of directors of the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, praised the role of the State of Kuwait’s pavilion at Expo in supporting the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection’s participation in the exhibition to achieve the goals of raising awareness on this day, through the cooperation of the State of Kuwait’s pavilion, represented by the head of the pavilion, Dr. Bader Al-Enezi, and the Kuwaiti staff, in mobilizing and receiving the pavilion’s guests to attend the awareness lectures in order to reach the largest number of visitors.
