Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, announced the Society’s participation in an international workshop in the Civil Society Organizations Pavilion in the region, locally and regionally, for the COP 27 Climate Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt.
Dr. Al-Aqab emphasized the importance of education in the environmental field, the theme of the event, as she presented the concept of formal classroom education included in educational curricula and self-directed non-classroom education in the environment, such as the Green Schools program, which includes spreading and broadcasting awareness values. She noted that the international participants in the event were attracted by the presentation of success stories of the “Green Schools” program, which the association offers annually to public and private schools and university and scientific and applied institute students for 12 consecutive years to promote the trend of studying environmental science and engineering in their later years.
The association presented to the attendees its model for the initiative to form a “Friends of the Environment Team” for young people aged between 8-18 years old, to hone their skills when they engage in voluntary environmental work and encourage them to continue voluntary environmental work by recording their achievements and activities in the environmental document that documents all these achievements. It also discussed the workshops and training programs that the association provides to train teachers on climate change curricula.
