As part of the activities of the twelfth season of the “Green Schools” program, a scientific trip was organized for a delegation from the Arab Open University to the ”Our Environment for Plastic Recycling“ factory.”

The Kuwait Environment Protection Society organized a scientific trip for a delegation from the Arab Open University to the “Our Environment for Plastic Recycling” factory as part of the activities of the second section of the twelfth season of the Green Schools Program for the current academic year and within the framework of the current training program course of the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Environmental Training affiliated with the Society.

The association noted that the visit of the Arab Open University delegation to the «Our Environment» factory for recycling plastic waste came to learn about the manufacturing process and to cooperate with the factory management to receive the «Green Schools» program in its twelfth session for the current academic year.

She explained, “Given that plastic is one of the most inexpensive and lightweight materials that is formed into a variety of products and is always readily available, the association seeks, through its awareness programs, to reduce its consumption and replace short-life plastics, which are disposed of within a year of manufacturing, with environmentally friendly alternatives that have a longer lifespan.”.

For his part, the Acting Director of the Arab Open University in the State of Kuwait, Professor Dr. Muhammad Sayed Muhammad, affirmed that “the university’s participation stems from its absolute belief in environmental awareness as a societal responsibility, and indeed an application that we experience through our work, whether through the university or its affiliates. Therefore, we were keen to implement many environmental aspects, the first of which is the complete elimination of all plastic bags and their replacement with environmentally friendly cardboard bags. We also implemented the adoption of internal correspondence via email and reduced the use of paper, in addition to participating in all environmental campaigns and launching targeted environmental campaigns from the university.”.

Dr. Mohammed Sayed added, “Our participation today with the Kuwait Environment Protection Society aims to spread environmental awareness among our students. One of the agreed-upon activities was a visit to recycling and waste treatment plants so that our students could learn about these stages, which creates future awareness regarding plastics and other materials, and the reduction of waste that may destroy the environment. We know that some plastics are used in chemical industries and are difficult to decompose, which reflects negatively on the environment. Therefore, the methods of treating them in recycling, according to the strategies followed, reduce their waste in other ways.” He pointed out that the university welcomes environmental initiatives and awareness campaigns that serve the community in accordance with our social responsibility.
