The Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection announced the conclusion of the first part of the twelfth season of the «Green Schools» program, coinciding with the approaching end of the current academic year and in coordination with the Ministry of Education. This is in continuation of the program’s role in raising awareness and providing scientific and practical training to ensure the continuity of education and training through a wide range of learning materials available to access environmental information that is not available in educational curricula and that enhances extracurricular education. The Society noted that registration in the program is through the Society’s website.
Janan Behzad, Director of Programs and Activities and a member of the Association’s Board of Directors, explained that «the twelfth season of the program includes topics on solid and household waste management, energy and its provision, water conservation, climate change, in addition to the axes of biodiversity (birds, local plants, protected areas, marine biodiversity), and last but not least, the Kuwaiti Environmental Protection Law.».
Behzad stated that this year's program includes a focus on training in climate change and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as training on the educational publication "Climate Change: An Educational Curriculum for Awareness and Training," which she previously issued in cooperation with the Environment Public Authority, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the Global Environment Facility. This falls within the framework of the agreement between the Authority and the Association, under which "Environmental Protection" provides awareness and information about the risks and effects of climate change on many areas of life, including health, the economy, and the environment, in the State of Kuwait. She emphasized that the publication of "Climate Change: An Educational Curriculum for Awareness and Training" is one of the Association's tools for spreading student awareness of this issue, in addition to supporting the Association's mechanisms in its extracurricular educational curriculum for school students at all levels.
She added: «This academic year, the Green Schools program presents its themes through an academic elite concerned with environmental issues, focusing on the topics covered. In addition, the awareness sessions of the Society’s Wildlife Monitoring Series have been included in extracurricular education programs, as the sessions have many non-scientific and educational objectives. They promote the instilling of environmental citizenship values through implicit scenes in the sessions that are repeated daily in a different way, so that the citizen is enthusiastic and aware of important environmental issues and responsible for preserving the environment and its natural and non-natural components to respond to all the challenges it faces in the present and the future.».
She noted that the activities of the 12th edition of the Green Schools Program included organizing specialized training workshops in schools and were distinguished by working in cooperation with Fatima Al-Sarawi Secondary School for Girls to produce a documentary film about ecotourism in the country and focusing on topics of biodiversity and wildlife conservation during the camping workshop in cooperation with the Birds Team in the Association, in addition to providing scientific lectures and meetings via Zoom and field visits.
