The Green Schools Program shines at the “Educational Workshop for Gulf States”

“The high school turnout and increasing number of applications to participate in the 14th season of its educational program “Green Schools” for the current academic year 2024/2025 is a reflection and result of achieving the multiple environmental awareness goals offered by the Kuwait Environment Protection Society within its activities and events for school students,” said the Secretary-General and Director of Programs and Activities at the Society, Jenan Behzad, in her comments on the presentation of the “Green Schools” program at the Society as a leading environmental education model during Kuwait’s participation in the “Educational Workshop for Green Schools in the Member States of the Education Bureau for the Gulf States 2024” in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia recently.

Behzad pointed to “the cooperation of the past fifty years between the association and the Ministry of Education in extracurricular student and school activities, including the Green Schools Program, environmental clubs in schools, the Beach Safari Program, organizing field and field visits, courses and workshops for students, the teaching staff and supervisors, specialized exhibitions and conferences, and the environmental document,“ praising the Ministry’s confidence in the association’s educational resources and what they include in terms of visual and audio aids and documentary films, and using them and benefiting from them in the curricula as tools and resources to support the educational process.

She pointed out that “the Ministry of Education has adopted the Green Schools Program, a pioneering initiative in raising environmental awareness in schools for our students and supporting science teachers, with its topics, events and activities that contribute to developing and strengthening the spirit of active citizenship among students, which begins at school, encouraging environmental volunteer work in the school community, and enriching and strengthening the school curriculum with new topics in national environmental work,” stressing that the program benefits about 3,000 students annually from about 50 schools and more.

The Secretary-General of the Association explained that “during the Ministry’s participation in the Gulf Educational Workshop, Ali Abdulrasoul Ismail from the Department of Assessment and Quality Control of Education, Head of Assessment and Academic Achievement in Public Education, and Adhra Al-Tamimi from the Curriculum Development Department, presented the Kuwaiti presentation, which focused on the Ministry of Education’s efforts in integrating environmental sciences into school curricula and on the importance of cooperating with civil society institutions to present the program as one of the innovative educational solutions that aim to instill a culture of environmental awareness in future generations.” She thanked them for “presenting the Association’s Green Schools Program as an integrated educational model that aims to promote sustainability in schools through the integration of environmental education into school curricula and environmental activities within schools,” stressing that “this trust has certainly yielded educational and awareness-raising success in the environmental field among students that is unmatched by the results of traditional educational plans, which encourages us to cooperate and give more.”.
