As part of the Green Schools Program implemented by the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, an awareness workshop entitled “Viruses: From Origin to Mutations, Climate Impacts, and Prevention Methods” was held at Latifa Al-Barrak Teachers' School. The workshop, presented by Dr. Hessa Taqi, aimed to highlight the origin and genetic evolution of viruses over time, their close relationship to climate change, and the impact of their mutations in light of environmental changes.
In this regard, Dr. Hessa Taqi stated in a statement, “Through this workshop, we were keen to provide practical guidance to help teachers prevent viral diseases within the classroom, especially in light of the recurring health challenges.”.
She added, “We distributed a simplified guide that includes immediate procedures when students show symptoms of illness, such as temporary isolation and communication with parents, in addition to promoting a culture of hygiene and ventilation inside the classroom, and not sharing personal items.”.
Dr. Hessa Taqi stressed “the importance of seasonal vaccinations, especially the flu vaccine, to maintain a healthy and safe school environment for all students and teachers.”
In a similar statement, the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection stressed the importance of organizing such workshops within the Green Schools program, explaining: “These awareness workshops come within the framework of the Society’s commitment to spreading environmental and health culture in educational institutions, and providing the educational staff with the tools and knowledge necessary to deal with emerging environmental and health challenges, especially in light of accelerating climate changes.”.
The Environment Association pointed out that “raising awareness among female teachers about ways to prevent viral diseases, and linking them to environmental factors, enhances the ability of schools to provide a healthy and safe educational environment, and supports the state’s efforts to achieve health and environmental sustainability within the school community.”.
She pointed out that “this event comes as part of a series of awareness activities implemented by the association within the framework of its comprehensive environmental program to spread health and environmental culture in schools, and to prepare a safe and child-friendly educational environment.”.
