The association calls for an end to the encroachment on wildlife components and their natural habitats.

The Kuwait Environment Protection Society called on citizens and expatriates to preserve the components of biodiversity in the country, stressing the need to avoid violations and abuses against wildlife in all its natural dimensions, stressing that this comes in line with and in conjunction with the celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity, which is celebrated by the countries of the world annually on the 22nd of May.

Youssef Al-Kous, the association’s treasurer, stated that “the global celebrations of the International Day for Biological Diversity coincide with the completion of the airing of the association’s program “Every Day, Yal 2,” which was recently broadcast on Kuwait TV as part of its latest Ramadan programming plan.”.

Al-Kous pointed out that “the association has a distinguished record in advocating for the preservation and protection of the components of biodiversity in the State of Kuwait and spreading correct environmental and scientific awareness and culture in this regard through its launch, during 7 consecutive years, of the documentary series to monitor and document wildlife in the State of Kuwait, which includes the programs “Every Day a Bird, Every Day a Plant, Every Day a Fish, Every Day a Picnic 1 and 2, and finally the Every Day a Bird program in its first and second parts.” He explained that the Every Day a Bird program focused on providing information about 30 types of small, meaty, marine, migratory and resident birds in the country out of about 409 types of birds in the State of Kuwait, noting that the Every Day a Plant program dealt with perennial and annual wild plants that appear in the rainy seasons, reviewing the plants of Kuwait, which amount to 400 types, both perennial and annual.

He explained that the "Every Day a Picnic" program, in its first and second parts, highlighted the environments and habitats that establish biodiversity. He emphasized that the "Every Day a Fish" program covered 30 types of fish found in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. He pointed out that the "Every Day a Fish" program, in its first and second parts, covered the tidal zones in 60 episodes for sixty types of living organisms in their various coastal environments, including sandy, rocky, muddy, and mixed environments. He explained that the series of monitoring and documenting wildlife in the State of Kuwait included 191 television episodes over seven years, with each episode lasting about 10 minutes, highlighting a component of wildlife, biodiversity, and its habitats in the country. The association was keen to gather distinguished scientific and technical expertise to ensure the quality and efficiency of this series, through which the association enriched the visual environmental library in the State of Kuwait and presented the audience with scientific material and content according to the highest scientific and technical standards.

He pointed out that “after completing 191 episodes about biodiversity in the State of Kuwait, its natural resources and different environments, we find that the success story extends to introducing the Arab world to the Kuwaiti environment through participation and winning in television program festivals and films, in addition to strengthening the role of the Ministry of Information in continuing to broadcast these episodes on Kuwait State Television to promote environmental awareness among citizens and residents in the State of Kuwait. Also, the use of these episodes in the educational field, especially since they cover and explain part of the educational curricula in the State of Kuwait, which were utilized during the Corona pandemic in education through virtual educational platforms during the past two years.”.

He noted that the association, through its teams and specialized committees, conducts aerial and field trips to monitor the environmental status of many environmentally sensitive sites and habitats, in addition to organizing events and activities throughout the year and issuing awareness publications in this regard, as well as its keenness to participate in national or international events concerned with this regard, pointing out that many aspects of wildlife in the State of Kuwait are included in the awareness and educational program (Green Schools) that it launched for school and university students 10 years ago and is preparing to announce the launch of its eleventh edition in conjunction with the start of the next academic year, as well as its annual awareness program (Beach Safari).
