Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, announced her participation in the Shuwaikh Beach Cleanup Campaign, scheduled to be held on Saturday, November 27, under the title «Sea Turtle Operation,» in cooperation with the Japanese Society in Kuwait and several government agencies, teams, and volunteer groups.
Dr. Al-Aqab explained that the Environment Protection Society received a delegation from the embassy and the Japanese Society in Kuwait to coordinate the annual event, which has become a symbolic annual meeting to interact with the status of the environment in sustainable development plans. She pointed out that the Environment Society is a key participant in the sea turtle campaign since 2000, as it is a community environmental work that includes symbolic activities that promote environmental awareness in the field by drawing attention to the importance of coasts, their environments, marine creatures and habitats.
She explained that the association is preparing for a diverse participation through several events and specialized committees, as it is organizing for the first time after the return of normal life, following the circumstances that prevented it from organizing last year due to the Corona pandemic. She pointed out that the most prominent participation of the association is represented in its educational program “Green Schools« in its eleventh consecutive season for the current academic year, where school students will be invited to participate, as it will be the first environmental and social activity after the return of normal life, while taking precautions. In addition, there will be the participation of its community awareness program »Beach Safari«, the Friends of the Environment team, the Department of Programs and Activities, Environmental Clubs, and the Youth Empowerment Program, as well as a distinguished group of members of the committees and volunteer teams in the association. She praised the participation of many government agencies, civil organizations, and volunteer groups in the sea turtle operation, stressing the association’s keenness to participate in a field role and special awareness support for this symbolic event, which it classifies as community awareness and an environmental message about caring for the beaches and their marine creatures, which is consistent with the association’s approach concerned with the components and environments of marine and coastal wildlife and their natural habitats.
Dr. Al-Aqab added that the inclusion of the sea turtle operation with the participation of many environmental partners falls within the framework of their community roles and their contributions towards promoting the environmental dimension in an institutional style and approach that positively reflects on participation in the field awareness activities. She mentioned that the preparation for the Green Turtle Operation project was done in coordination and setting the program of events and distributing roles between the association and the Japanese Association in Kuwait with representatives from the Japanese Embassy, stressing that the beach cleanup campaign is receiving a wide presence and interest from various people interested in the environment.
