The association celebrates the "Earth Hour" event by calling for the sustainable use of electricity, in line with regional events.

In a press statement today, Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, head of the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, called for "conserving and rationalizing electricity consumption." She emphasized, on the occasion of the world switching off lights for one hour last Saturday night in celebration of Earth Hour, "the importance of continuing this practice throughout the evening, as well as its effectiveness for security purposes, since the country has adopted switching off unnecessary lights in the evening for security reasons. Here, we find that security guidelines are ultimately in the best interest of the environment." Dr. Al-Aqab noted that "given the current regional circumstances, it seems that every night will be Earth Hour, as many countries are switching off lights in the streets and all government buildings, among others." She stated that “the Environment Society has been participating for two decades in the global Earth Hour event, organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), by switching off lights and electronic devices from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM local time.” Dr. Al-Aqab explained that “this initiative is part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Earth Hour, which began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, and has become the world’s largest grassroots environmental movement. Millions of individuals, institutions, and landmarks around the world participate by switching off unnecessary lights for one hour, demonstrating their commitment to protecting the planet and combating climate change.” She clarified that “Earth Hour symbolizes global unity and collective action for a more sustainable future,” noting that Earth Hour 2026 presents an opportunity to raise environmental awareness, especially in light of increasing climate challenges, and encourages individuals, businesses, and governments to take concrete actions beyond the one-hour event, such as adopting renewable energy policies and reducing carbon emissions.
