Janan Behzad, Secretary General of the Society, who at the end of the program was awarded the title of “Specialist in Qualifying Institutions in the Field of Sustainability Reporting” according to the professional frameworks of the Global Reporting Initiative, according to the fourth edition of the Guidance Document (GRI), affirmed that the Society for the Protection of the Environment’s participation in the program comes within the framework of its belief in the importance of civic participation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and working to achieve the environmental dimension of each of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, noting that this is in implementation of the vision of His Highness the Emir of the country, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, may God protect him, through supporting development programs and achieving the highest levels of social responsibility.
Behzad explained that the participation of civil society organizations in sustainable development programs and plans is consistent with the global call to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to eliminate problems, protect the Earth, and ensure the continuity of natural resources.
She pointed out that the goals include multiple environmental areas such as climate change, conservation of wildlife and marine life, promoting innovation for solutions, sustainable consumption, and equity in access to environmental and natural services such as water and food, and include other priorities, stressing that the goals are interconnected and the success of achieving a particular goal in addressing issues closely related to other goals.
The Secretary-General of the Environment Society added: “From this standpoint, the Sustainable Development Goals require working in a spirit of partnership and in a practical manner so that we can make the right choices today in a sustainable way, for future generations. This will certainly be done through the Global Sustainability Reporting Initiative, measuring and disclosing sustainable development in the Society, and presenting the experience for application to civil society institutions.”.
Behzad explained that “one of the benefits of implementing sustainability reports is the transparency of presenting environmental and social affairs in the facility and monitoring their development and improvement in the coming years, and that the development of sustainability reports works to promote the positive effects of practical practices such as using more environmentally friendly products or production methods, or providing new innovative services.”.
