In a developmental step towards unifying national efforts to support environmental issues and sustainable development, Dr. Fatima Al-Abdali, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Sustainability Association for Social Responsibility, visited the Kuwait Environment Protection Society and met with its Chairperson, Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, to consider and agree on an initiative that includes joint events and activities.
In this context, Dr. Al-Aqab, President of the Environment Society, presented a rich historical overview of the pioneering and distinguished role played by the Kuwait Environment Protection Society throughout its history since 1974 in protecting and preserving the local and regional environment, as well as its tasks, roles, responsibilities, and international engagements. For her part, Dr. Fatima Al-Abdali presented a comprehensive overview of the objectives of the Sustainability Society for Social Responsibility, including “establishing a national scientific platform to activate and coordinate community participation to promote the values of citizenship and cultivate a generation aware of the culture of sustainable development, and to innovate methods that enhance the values of social responsibility and active participation in the desired development and its sustainability.” Dr. Al-Abdali also noted… Al-Abdali emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the concept of sustainable development among members of Kuwaiti society. She stated that the association encourages the expertise and competencies of its members to serve the country in the field of sustainable development, making optimal use of their national advisory role to achieve public benefit within the framework of national legislation and strategies. She also highlighted the importance of encouraging national initiatives that seek to innovate development alternatives and effective solutions to improve the quality of life for the community. Furthermore, she pointed to the importance of submitting proposals to develop legislation that aligns with international standards, presenting proposals to various state sectors to solidify the development approach, communicating and coordinating with all media outlets to organize public awareness programs and campaigns, addressing the dangers of wasting natural resources that affect all pillars of sustainable development, and strengthening ties among association members through the establishment of social, cultural, scientific, and developmental activities.
