As part of a joint cooperation agreement signed between the Kuwait Environment Protection Society and the Arab Open University in Kuwait, the Society organized a field trip for a group of university students to the Jahra Nature Reserve, within the framework of the Society's Green Schools Program. This was stated in a press release today by Jenan Behzad, Secretary General and Director of Programs and Activities at the Society.
Janan Behzad emphasized that “the visit falls within the framework of promoting environmental awareness and consolidating the concepts of sustainability among higher education students,” adding, “The visit aimed to introduce students to the importance of nature reserves and their vital role in protecting biodiversity, in addition to learning about the wetland ecosystems in Kuwait, and getting acquainted with the resident and migratory birds that are home to the Jahra Reserve, as it is one of the most prominent environmental areas of national and regional importance.”.
She explained that “Dr. Wafaa Behbehani, a member of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, and Dr. Sarah Ahmed Rajab from Kuwait University presented scientific lectures and discussion sessions for the students. The program included a guided tour inside the reserve, during which specialists provided a scientific explanation of the environmental value of the reserve, its role in the ecological balance, in addition to the environmental challenges facing wetlands, and the importance of the participation of individuals and institutions in protecting and sustaining them.”.
The Secretary-General of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society stated, “This visit is part of the Society’s ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with academic institutions, bridge the gap between theory and practice, and empower students to engage directly with environmental issues, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Kuwait’s environmental vision.” For her part, Maha Mohammed Al-Asqah, Head of Student Affairs at the Arab Open University, emphasized the importance of this constructive collaboration, affirming “the University’s commitment to integrating sustainability and environmental awareness concepts into student activities and enhancing the role of students in environmental protection and active community participation.“ She added, ”This visit is part of a series of joint activities and programs implemented by the Society and the University, underscoring the importance of integrated work between civil society organizations and educational institutions in building an environmentally conscious generation that is responsible towards its country’s natural resources.”.
