As part of a joint cooperation agreement signed between the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection and the Arab Open University in Kuwait, the Society organized a field visit for a group of university students to the Jahra Nature Reserve, within the framework of the Society's Green Schools Program. This was stated in a press release today by Jenan Behzad, Secretary-General and Director of Programs and Activities at the Society. Behzad emphasized that "the visit falls within the framework of enhancing environmental awareness and instilling sustainability concepts among higher education students." She added, "The visit aimed to introduce students to the importance of nature reserves and their vital role in protecting biodiversity, as well as to familiarize them with Kuwait's wetland ecosystems and the resident and migratory birds that inhabit the Jahra Nature Reserve, which is considered one of the most prominent environmental areas of national and regional importance." She explained that "Dr. Wafaa Behbehani, a member of the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, and Dr. Sarah Ahmed Rajab from Kuwait University delivered scientific lectures and discussion sessions for the students. The program included a guided tour within the reserve, during which specialists provided a scientific explanation of the reserve's environmental value, its role in ecological balance, and the environmental challenges it faces." The visit addressed the challenges facing wetlands and the importance of individual and institutional participation in their protection and sustainability. The Secretary-General of the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection stated, ”This visit is part of the Society’s ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with academic institutions, bridge the gap between theory and practice, and empower students to engage directly with environmental issues, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Kuwait’s environmental vision.“ For her part, Maha Mohammed Al-Asqah, Head of Student Affairs at the Arab Open University, emphasized the importance of this constructive collaboration, affirming the University’s commitment to integrating sustainability and environmental awareness concepts into student activities and enhancing students” role in environmental protection and active community engagement. She added, “This visit is part of a series of joint activities and programs implemented by the Society and the University, underscoring the importance of integrated work between civil society organizations and educational institutions in building an environmentally conscious generation responsible for its country’s natural resources.”.
