Member of the Environmental Society and the National Committee to Combat Desertification, and a weather forecasting expert

Issa Ramadan, a member of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society and a member of the National Committee for Combating Desertification, and an expert in weather forecasting, confirmed that the Al-Abdaliyah Reserve, belonging to the Kuwait Oil Company, is a successful experiment in cultivating different types of trees and native plants in the State of Kuwait, which has a dry desert climate. This came during the participation of the member of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society in the National Committee for Combating Desertification in a visit to the reserve to learn about the experiment.

Issa Ramadan explained that “the Al-Abdaliyah Reserve has proven its success in cultivating various types of trees such as the Sidr, Samar, Talh, Ghaf, Arak, Barham, Safsaf, and other types of trees, in addition to cultivating perennial wild plants such as the Arfaj, Ramth, Arta, Qardhi, Awsaj, Thamam, and other wild plants,” noting that “this unique experience demonstrates the success of the growth of plants and trees in Kuwait’s hot and dry climate,” pointing out the success of the Sidr and Arfaj trees cultivated by members of the National Committee for Desertification.

He explained that the association has a large and multifaceted file of activities in the field of combating desertification, including participation in the National Committee to Combat Desertification in the State of Kuwait since 2013, where a representative of the association is chosen annually for its membership. He added that the association organizes seminars and workshops on desertification, land uses and drought management, and pointed to the association’s specialized participation in multiple international events on combating desertification and drought management.

Weather forecasting expert Issa Ramadan pointed out the importance of involving civil society organizations in making decisions related to the environment and development projects by giving their opinions and advice based on their extensive experience in many areas of environmental work, especially those related to desertification and its resistance, and developing environmental solutions, plans and projects consistent with development projects, as well as studying the environmental impact of those development projects.
