The training program “Applying Environmental Protection Laws to Ensure a Better Work Environment” was organized by the association and the Department of Administrative Development and Training at the Ministry of Defense.

The Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Specialized Environmental Training, affiliated with the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, in cooperation with the Administrative Development and Training Department of the Ministry of Defense, organized a two-day training program entitled “Applying Environmental Protection Laws to Ensure a Better Work Environment.” The program was attended by military and administrative personnel from the Ministry of Defense. The Society commended the Administrative Development and Training Department for its cooperation and commitment to hosting the program, as well as for providing all necessary logistical support for its success.

Nawaf Al-Muwail, the program presenter and a member of the Environmental Protection Society, explained that “the training program’s action plan included learning about international laws and comprehensive environmental framework agreements signed by the State of Kuwait, which represent a part of international law, such as the Ramsar Convention, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982, the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer of 1985, the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer of 1987, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol of 1992, the Convention on Biological Diversity of 1992, the Bonn Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals of 1979, and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification of 1994 and 1996.”.

In the same context, Nawaf Al-Muwaile explained during the program that “environmental protection laws are a set of legislations and regulations that aim to protect the environment and preserve natural resources for current and future generations,” indicating that “the environmental protection law has established implementation and monitoring mechanisms to ensure compliance, including imposing penalties to ensure adherence and achieve a balance between the use and preservation of natural resources. It has also established implementation and monitoring mechanisms to ensure compliance, including imposing penalties on individuals or companies that violate these laws.”.

He added, “These laws are an important part of global efforts to address environmental challenges and maintain the health of the planet. The law is a reference for implementing environmental policies and developing national strategies to preserve biodiversity, protect air, water and soil from pollution, promote sustainability in economic and industrial activities, and regulate waste management and disposal in healthy and safe ways in cooperation with relevant authorities, civil society and the private sector.”.

The program's presenter and member of the Environmental Protection Association stated, "International agreements such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) are among the key tools for addressing climate change globally, as they aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote adaptation to the impacts of climate change. Therefore, these agreements require an international commitment to implement policies and procedures for preserving the environment and natural resources, which contributes to incorporating them into national legislation in signatory countries to ensure compliance with the principles of these agreements.".

Nawaf Al-Muwail concluded by emphasizing that “the practical training on environmental policy analysis and the training on implementing an assessment of the offices and departments in the institution resulted in a discussion and brainstorming that we hope will contribute to increasing the contribution to the application of the law through it.”.
