As part of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society’s international efforts to coordinate and participate in unified Arab plans and programs concerned with reducing disaster risks, the Society’s President, Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, held a meeting at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with Mustafa Saadi, the official in charge of the Technical Secretariat of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction at the Housing, Water Resources and Disaster Reduction Department in the Economic Affairs Sector of the League.
Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab explained that the meeting addressed the roles and tasks of the Environment Protection Society in the field of disaster risk reduction, whether at the local level through its organization of an event on October 13 of each year with the participation of government agencies and Kuwaiti civil organizations, in line with the annual global celebrations, or at the international level as it assumes the duties of the regional advisor to the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Risk Reduction “GNDR”.
She noted that her meeting at the headquarters of the League of Arab States with Mustafa Saadi, the official of the Technical Secretariat of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction, witnessed an agreement on the participation of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society in the Arab meetings held by the Secretariat and the Department of Housing, Water Resources and Disaster Risk Reduction, as well as organizing joint events in this regard to seek to spread more community awareness towards disasters and reducing their risks.
Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab confirmed the participation of the official of the Technical Secretariat of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction in the celebration of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, which is scheduled to be organized on October 15 in this regard.
