The Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection extends its greatest congratulations and best wishes to His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah – may God protect and preserve him – and to His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah – may God protect him – on Kuwait hosting the 45th session of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, welcoming the people of the Gulf to their home and their house, the land of peace, Kuwait.
Coinciding with the convening of the 45th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit under the slogan “The Future is Gulf,” we celebrate the silver jubilee of the Gulf Network of Environmental NGOs, which was established and its objectives announced in Kuwait in 2000. This network represents a Gulf cooperation journey in environmental matters spanning approximately 25 years, culminating in its silver jubilee as a leader in voluntary Gulf environmental cooperation.
In this context, the association commends and praises the attention given by Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC countries, in previous sessions, to the roles of Gulf civil associations and organizations that support and enhance governmental and executive bodies in their countries, and the directive to support and assist them in performing their voluntary community tasks.
The network aligns with the leaders' decision (December 2001) to encourage the establishment of civil society organizations in the GCC countries in the field of environmental volunteer work. It also appreciates the recommendations of the 16th meeting of the Environmental Coordination Committee (April 2002) to allow the network to participate as an observer in seminars, workshops, and certain technical meetings.
We renew the call to realize the Gulf dream of joining public benefit and civil society organizations concerned with environmental issues in the GCC countries to the Gulf Network of Civil Society Environmental Associations.
This Gulf network aspires to be a leading platform to support the environmental work in civil society institutions in the Arab Gulf countries, and to unify scientific and professional efforts to achieve our common aspirations in the field of awareness, education, legislation and joint environmental action.
We ask God Almighty to bless our Gulf with lasting security, safety and prosperity under the leadership of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
In conclusion, it aspires and looks forward to including His Highness the Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and his Crown Prince, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, may God protect and preserve them, in the association’s golden jubilee and the achievement of its 50 years of community environmental work, by allocating a permanent headquarters that contains the contributions of the members of the Kuwaiti Association for Environmental Protection and the Gulf Network of Civil Environmental Associations and its volunteer youth.
