Memorandum of Understanding between the Association and the Engineering Association for Development and Environment in the Republic of Iraq

The Kuwait Environment Protection Society considered that its international environmental participations confirm the standards of merit and efficiency it has reached during its 50-year journey, and enhance the successes of Kuwaiti civil society organizations in all their specializations, and reflect the extent of the state’s interest in supporting community work, and pushing its journey towards continuity and excellence. This came in the words of Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Society, on the sidelines of the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Kuwait Environment Protection Society and the Engineering Society for Development and Environment in the Republic of Iraq.

Dr. Al-Aqab noted that “the Environment Society, while striving to spread environmental awareness among members of society and working to protect the environment in various fields on more than one level, aims to attract researchers and scientists in traditional and modern environmental fields, including the fields of environmental science and engineering, in order to enrich the correct knowledge and environmental culture, through reliable awareness, as well as conducting environmental studies at the local, regional and international levels, and there is no doubt that the memorandum falls within this framework.”.

She praised the Department of Civil Societies at the Ministry of Social Affairs for its keenness to follow up on the programs and activities of public benefit associations, especially those of an international nature, including international agreements, and commended the Director of the Department, Professor Iman Al-Anzi, for her keenness to overcome all the difficulties and obstacles that civil organizations may face.

Dr. Al-Aqab noted that signing the memorandum does not entail any financial costs for them in the scope of environmental work consistent with their goals and their role in protecting the environment and attracting successful initiatives, pointing out that the memorandum is valid for 3 years and is renewed unless one of the parties objects in writing and notifies the other party.

For his part, Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Mawjoud, President of the Engineering Society for Development and Environment in the Republic of Iraq, pointed to the responsible cooperation frameworks in the memorandum of understanding, including “exchanging experiences between the Kuwait Environment Protection Society and the Iraqi Engineering Society for Development and Environment, enhancing participation in the activities of the two parties through exchange between them, working on building capacities in the field of environment, development, awareness, environmental engineering and artificial intelligence, in addition to knowledge support in environmental research and engineering studies, participation in media campaigns on social media sites for conferences and programs between the two societies, in addition to joint cooperation in launching joint environmental engineering programs and projects, and working to support the goals of sustainable development.”.

Dr. Muhammad Abdul-Mawjoud stated that “The Engineering Society for Development and Environment in the Republic of Iraq is one of the organizations that calls for participation in the implementation of environmental engineering programs in a number of Iraqi governorates, and includes providing training courses in the field of occupational health and safety, as the Society provides these courses through the activities of the Green Technology Society, which is one of the Society’s initiatives in the field of sustainability, climate change and occupational safety,” expressing his appreciation for the history of the Environment Society and its historical record full of distinguished achievements that made it one of the most prominent long-established environmental organizations at the international level.
