The Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, through its Chairperson and member of the Regional Advisory Group for Disaster Risk Reduction in West Asia, Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, confirmed that the “International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction” celebration will be held under the patronage of Major General Talal Mohammed Al-Roumi, Head of the Kuwait Fire Force, under the theme “Financing Resilience, Not Disasters,” on Monday, October 20th. She noted that the event will be hosted at the Kuwait Fire Force headquarters with the participation of numerous organizations and experts. She also mentioned the warm welcome she received from Major General Talal Mohammed Al-Roumi, Head of the Kuwait Fire Force, at his office, accompanied by the Society’s Vice President of Environmental Engineers, Engineer Yousef Al-Ramzi. Dr. Al-Aqab added... On behalf of herself and her colleagues on the Board of Directors and the General Assembly of the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, she expressed her deep appreciation to Major General Talal Al-Roumi for his patronage of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction event, which reflects the cooperation between governments and civil society organizations in crisis management according to the Sendai Framework. She commended the General Fire Force for hosting the event and fulfilling its community role, in addition to its international role as a key focal point in the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction program. She noted that the celebration promotes building the resilience of local communities to disasters and encourages a holistic approach to disaster risk management that encompasses the entire community and strengthens synergies among different groups as needed. She stated that the event program includes workshops with the participation of experts and representatives from participating government agencies and civil organizations, as well as specialized regional entities. She added that the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction event enjoys broad participation and falls within the framework of implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. She stated that “the event encompasses several key themes, most notably highlighting national efforts in this field through presentations by participating entities on their programs related to disaster risk reduction. It also showcases the efforts of the National Committee for Disaster Risk Reduction, which includes Kuwaiti civil society organizations that are members of the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Risk Reduction (GNDR). This will demonstrate their role in raising awareness about various concepts and themes, including the concept of disaster risk reduction itself, how to acquire this knowledge, and the types of participation involved. Furthermore, it will address the impact of climate change on disaster risks in the geographical region, the types of participation available (courses, training, and workshops), and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the role of international cooperation in this regard, and the challenges facing its implementation.” Dr. [Name] concluded. The punishment is that “the strength of civil society participation in implementing the provisions of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in Article 5 comes specifically in paragraph (a) of the role of stakeholders, which states: (that civil society, volunteers, organized voluntary work organizations and community organizations should participate and cooperate with public institutions in working to provide specific knowledge and practical guidance in the context, and develop and implement regulatory frameworks, standards and plans for disaster risk reduction, in addition to engaging in the implementation of local, national, regional and global plans and strategies, and contributing to raising people’s awareness and culture of prevention and education about disaster risks and providing support for them.”.
