Janan Behzad, Secretary General and Director of Programs and Activities, affirmed that the Kuwait Environment Protection Society continues its efforts to expand the "Green Schools" program in Kuwait, aiming to reach the largest possible number of schools and instill a culture of sustainability as an integral part of the educational process and a fundamental component in building a scientifically aware and empowered generation capable of protecting Kuwait's environment in the future. This statement was made on the occasion of Al-Resala Bilingual School receiving international accreditation for the Eco-Schools program and being awarded the Green Flag, the highest environmental distinction granted to eco-friendly schools worldwide, after completing the seven steps of the Eco-Schools program in accordance with the standards of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). Behzad explained that “this program aligns directly with Kuwait’s 2035 vision for sustainable education, environmental protection, empowering young men and women, and preparing a conscious generation capable of facing future challenges.“ She considered that ”the achievement attained by Al-Resala Bilingual School did not come out of nowhere, but is the fruit of many efforts and steps, collective work, and joint cooperation between the school administration, teachers, students, and parents. This work has proven that the school is not just a place for education, but a true scientific environment for cultivating environmental awareness, building scientific capabilities, and instilling a culture of responsibility towards society.” For her part, Dr. Wafaa Behbehani, a member of the society and its representative at the school’s Green Flag-raising ceremony, said that “the Kuwait Environment Protection Society is a national partner in building an environmentally conscious generation. It plays a pivotal role in supporting and implementing the ”Green Schools“ program in Kuwait by involving students and teachers in educational environmental projects that enhance scientific knowledge and instill responsible practices within the school environment. In recent years, the society has contributed to implementing specialized programs and initiatives in schools, including training workshops for students and teachers, in addition to field visits and practical courses related to environmental education and developing sustainable behaviors.” Dr. Behbehani pointed out that Wafaa Behbehani added that “the vision of the Green Schools Program at the Environment Society is not limited to theoretical environmental education, but is based on building students“ capabilities and activating school participation in making environmental decisions within the school, such as waste management, energy conservation, and preserving natural resources. Many schools have succeeded in employing this vision through innovative student initiatives that were the result of the training provided by the Society.”.
