A scientific trip to Umm Al-Maradim Island for the Friends of the Environment team

Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, said that as part of the activities of (Field Environmental Training Week) within the Youth Empowerment Program, which it organizes for high school and university students to introduce the importance of pursuing environmental university studies, a scientific field trip was organized for the Society’s Friends of the Environment team to Umm Al-Maradim Island, which included lectures and workshops on the marine and fungal organisms there, the health of the marine environment, and the quality of water in the vicinity of the island.

Al-Aqab revealed that during the scientific field trip to Umm Al-Maradim Island, which started from the naval base in Fintas, the head of the Wildlife Protection Committee of the Society, Dr. Munaf Behbehani, gave a scientific explanation about the nature of the island, its natural components, its environmental habitats and the living organisms in it, as well as giving an explanation about the importance of the presence of the security center in the Bakr area due to the security need.
She stated that the scientific trip to Umm Al-Maradim Island included a scientific lecture presented by Waleed Al-Zakari from the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research on the importance of field tests, reviewing their most important types: temperature, salinity, and other factors.
Hydrogen, dissolved oxygen, and other factors give us an idea of the health of the marine environment by measuring the quality of its water.

Scientific explanation
Wajdan Al-Aqab pointed out that the field trip included a presentation by Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al-Essa, in which he discussed the most prominent roles of the Coast Guard, especially in its environmental aspect, in addition to the distinguished security role that the Coast Guard plays in the maritime security system in the State of Kuwait. She noted that the lecture on the role of the Environmental Police in protecting the marine environment enriched the activities of the scientific trip lecture program to Umm Al-Maradim Island.

Ministry of Interior
Wajdan Al-Aqab emphasized the significant cooperation shown by numerous entities and leaders, most notably Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Operations, Major General Jamal Al-Sayegh, in facilitating the association's mission during the Field Environmental Training Week. She commended the Ministry of Interior for providing transportation for the trip members from Al-Khiran to the naval base, and praised the participation and escort provided by the Environmental Police, the Coast Guard, and all staff and coordinators from the Ministry of Interior. She also expressed her gratitude to the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research for its participation with a scientific lecture and for its ongoing and continuous cooperation with the Kuwait Environment Protection Society.
