The Kuwait Environment Protection Society and the Regional Network for Social Responsibility, “Kuwait Social Responsibility Program”, signed a memorandum of understanding that includes 10 areas of joint activities and events within the framework of supporting social responsibility and enhancing participation in the activities of the two parties in exchange between them to enhance the role of civil society organizations in the State of Kuwait.
Khaled Al-Kaabi, a member of the association’s board of directors, said that the memorandum supports national initiatives to enable civil institutions in society to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in accordance with the State of Kuwait’s new 2035 vision, noting that “the environment is intertwined with most of those goals, affecting them and being affected by them, which necessitates ensuring the integration of the environment into all aspects of sustainable development.”.
Al-Kaabi explained that the areas included in the memorandum include “cooperating together to achieve and implement the recommendation that came in the (Kuwait Conference and Award for Sustainable Production and Consumption) regarding the necessity of establishing an information observatory for the environmental footprint in Kuwait in cooperation with the International Secretariat for the Environmental Footprint, with the aim of spreading awareness among all segments of Kuwaiti society about the risks of unsustainable production and consumption, as well as providing a scientific basis that enables everyone (individuals, institutions and companies) to measure their environmental footprint in order to build efficient systems in accordance with the standards of Sustainable Development Goal (12) and the New Kuwait Vision 2035, in addition to joint cooperation on launching an initiative entitled (Citizenship is a Responsibility and Sustainability), in addition to working on preparing the (Good Life) campaign with the public in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, which is a message directed to everyone that we have the right, responsibility and opportunity to change for the better, through establishing joint links in cooperation with other entities.”.
For his part, Dr. Shehab Al-Othman, representative of the Regional Network for Social Responsibility in the State of Kuwait and Director General of the Institute for Superior Achievement for Private Training and Administrative, Economic and Financial Consulting, affirmed “the memorandum’s support for strengthening cooperation between them in a way that benefits the State of Kuwait, and that cooperation between them will be scientific, technical and awareness-raising in various environmental fields, through participation in environmental awareness-related projects, with the aim of providing a framework for the exchange of knowledge and enhancing the scientific, practical and technical capabilities of both parties in the areas of cooperation mentioned in this memorandum.”.
Dr. Al-Othman explained that “the memorandum seeks to work on developing specialized training programs on the environmental footprint and sustainable consumption (smart consumption) to localize knowledge and enhance the institutional efficiency of schools and universities to build efficient systems for sustainable production and consumption, build capacities in the field of sustainable development, provide knowledge support in environmental consulting and research studies, and the association’s contribution in providing support for initiatives in accordance with the systems and regulations of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Community Development, in addition to participating in the media campaign on social media sites for conferences and programs, continuing cooperation with the Kuwait Program and participation in the Kuwait Conference and Award for Sustainable Production and Consumption, and cooperating with the Kuwait Program in providing support in conferences and training courses.”.
