The association publishes “Climate Change: An Educational Curriculum for Awareness and Training” to coincide with the return to schools.

The Secretary-General of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, Jenan Behzad, announced that the educational publication “Climate Change: An Educational Approach for Awareness and Training,” which it issued in cooperation with the Environment Public Authority, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the Global Environment Facility, falls within the framework of the agreement between the Authority and the Society, under which “Environmental Protection” is presenting a climate literacy campaign through which the team works to provide awareness and information about the risks and effects of climate change on many areas of life, health, economic, environmental and others in the State of Kuwait.

Behzad explained that the publication “Climate Change: An Educational Approach for Awareness and Training,” which she prepared in collaboration with “Engineer Hanan Malallah, Head of the Climate Change Monitoring Department, and with scientific review by Engineer Sharif Al-Khayyat, Director of the Air Quality Monitoring Department at the Environment Public Authority,” provides awareness and training sessions for public school and university students. She added: “These age groups are the focus of this publication, ensuring the dissemination of accurate knowledge and awareness among these large numbers. Furthermore, the focus on students is significant because they represent the future and should possess the necessary framework of behaviors to mitigate climate change. The publication includes a scientific overview of the most important and prominent scientific definitions in this regard, along with simplified and engaging scientific material, as well as explanatory figures and diagrams that clarify the information, thus reinforcing its retention in the minds of readers.”.

She pointed out that “climate change is one of the major challenges of our time, and it adds great pressure on our societies and the environment. The global effects of climate change are wide-ranging and unprecedented in terms of changing weather patterns to rising sea levels, which increase the risk of flooding coastal areas and small islands and affect water sources. Adapting to these effects will be more difficult and costly in the future if radical and safe measures are not taken.” She noted that the publication includes many related inquiries in a simplified introductory and training framework, including “Is climate change really happening now? And what are its negative effects?” while reviewing the most prominent of them at the local, Arab and international levels, as well as explaining their causes.

She added that the publication dedicated many titles, explanations, illustrations, and statistics to climate change and its impact on the State of Kuwait, in addition to the sources of greenhouse gases in the country and a study of the potential impacts on the country such as rising temperatures, increased dust storms, rainfall, and rising sea level. She explained that the publication presented proposed solutions to reduce and limit greenhouse gases in the State of Kuwait through several key proposed technical options, which it identified in five technologies, reviewing the solution to stop climate change through globally binding points.

The Secretary-General of the Environment Society addressed the State of Kuwait’s efforts to adapt to the problem of climate change through what the publication presented, explaining the Society’s role in raising awareness of the effects of climate change in the country, guided by its awareness campaign “Climate Change Literacy”. She emphasized that the publication of Climate Change is an educational curriculum for awareness and training that coincides with the approaching start of the new academic year, and this is one of the Society’s tools in spreading student awareness of this issue, in addition to supporting the Society’s mechanisms in its extracurricular educational curriculum concerned with the categories of school students in its general stages.
