The General Assembly of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society endorsed the seven candidates for membership of the Board of Directors. While it approved the financial and administrative reports for the year 2022 at its 46th regular annual meeting, the Board of Directors held its first meeting to distribute positions and tasks, approving Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab as Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Engineer Abdul-Amir Al-Jazaf as Vice-Chairperson, Jenan Behzad as Secretary-General, Mahmoud Tifouni as Treasurer, and Engineer Abdulaziz Al-Muhanna, Khaled Al-Kaabi and Dr. Muhammad Khadada as members.
In this regard, Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, said that the association held its regular annual meeting under her chairmanship, with the attendance of the seven candidates for membership of the Board of Directors, members of the General Assembly, representatives of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, and a representative of the Al-Rai Auditing Office.
Dr. Al-Aqab added, “The following items on the meeting agenda were discussed: the Board of Directors” 46th Annual Report for 2022 from an administrative perspective on the fiscal year ending, approval of the final accounts for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2022, along with the auditor’s report, the draft budget for the upcoming year 2023, opening the floor for proposals and opinions from members, selecting the auditor and determining their remuneration, as well as the Board of Directors’ endorsement of seven vacant seats in accordance with Article 22 of the Association’s bylaws.”.
She indicated that the assembly witnessed the attendance of the general assembly members who were keen, with the rights available to them, to activate their roles, and this was evident through the smoothness of the meeting, which was characterized by transparency in presenting the items through the announced numerical vote on each of them separately. She stated that “the meeting ended with the endorsement of the seven candidates, praising the keenness of the general assembly members to be present and attend and discuss in a friendly atmosphere that reflects the distinguished national sense that pushes towards strengthening the association’s social responsibility and supporting the values of voluntary environmental work.”.
She praised the leaders of the Ministry of Social Affairs and the officials of the Department of Civil Societies, who formed a specialized committee from their staff to supervise the electoral process and manage the general assembly. Praise is extended to everyone who did their work well and exerted their effort to follow up on the interest of the association to preserve its contributions and achievements within the powers and regulations, taking into account their supervisory and administrative roles for the benefit of civil society institutions. She also commended the efforts of the Acting Director of the Department of Civil Societies, Abdulaziz Al-Ajmi, the Acting Supervisor of the Department of Civil Societies, Asim Al-Failakawi, the Chairman of the Committee supervising the general assembly, legal researcher Saad Faisal Al-Sahoud, Hadi Al-Ajmi, and lawyers Badour Bounashi and Aisha Al-Baijan for their distinguished efforts in cooperating with the association to bring the general assembly out in this honorable manner.
In a kind gesture, Dr. Al-Aqab invited the members of the General Assembly to contribute to the association's programmatic journey with their accumulated experience in all areas of environmental volunteer work, announcing that the association's doors are open to them through their involvement in the specialized teams and committees. In the same context, Dr. Al-Aqab confirmed that “a select group of former board members were honored for their outstanding efforts in maintaining the work of the association throughout their membership on the board, namely Youssef Al-Kous, Ahmed Jawhar and Ahmed Al-Yassin, appreciating their dedication and sincerity to volunteer work.”.
