The association is organizing the 9th International Conference on Biodiversity and Biotechnology in a virtual format.

The Kuwait Environment Protection Society, in cooperation with the French Society for Animal Sciences and the Faculty of Sciences at Hassan II University in Casablanca, Morocco, organized the 9th International Conference on Biodiversity and Biotechnology (ICBB9), which took place over 3 days in a virtual format via Zoom. The conference, which is a unique platform for scientific and technical partnership between biodiversity and progress in the field of biotechnology, as well as cooperation and innovation between the academic, industrial and environmental sectors, was chaired by Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, President of the Society.

Dr. Al-Aqab said that, out of concern for the association, which heads the National Committee of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in the State of Kuwait, it led the sponsorship of this conference due to its environmental importance, which will inevitably benefit the protection of biodiversity in the region.

She added, “The conference addressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation between researchers, engineers, and industry experts. It shared the latest knowledge and strategies in the fields of biodiversity and biotechnology. It discussed vital topics such as nature conservation and the preservation of endangered species, as well as industrial biotechnology, biodiversity, marine biotechnology, forestry, and biotechnology applications in environmental and medical fields.”.

“The conference witnessed broad participation from scientific and research elites from many countries around the world, with the sessions including 14 working papers in 3 dialogue sessions,” she said, adding, “The first session dealt with marine ecosystems on biodiversity, marine algae, invasive species and seafood, and marine agriculture. The session was supervised by Professor René Lafont and Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, and included 6 working papers.”.

”The second session dealt with the integration of food chains and the interactions of microorganisms, plants and animals, and was supervised by Dr. Amina Boubakri, and included 4 working papers, while the third session dealt with biology and the environment, and was supervised by Professor Djili Bouras and Dr. Zaza Ben Smira, and included 4 working papers.”.

Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab concluded, “Regarding the scientific poster sessions, which included two sessions under the title “Biodiversity vs. Biotechnology,” marine and terrestrial ecosystems, aquaculture, plants, and animals, Dr. Waseem Qarmzi and Dr. Muhammad Ali supervised 7 scientific posters, while Professor Muhammad Ramdani supervised 4 of them.” She noted that the State of Kuwait was distinguished by extensive scientific and research participation, through which national elites presented 6 lectures, scientific papers, and scientific research.
