Within the framework of exchanging experiences between the Arab Open University in the State of Kuwait and the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, and based on supporting social responsibility, enhancing participation in the activities of both parties through exchange between them, and strengthening the role of civil society organizations in the State of Kuwait, the University and the Society deemed it necessary to establish a mutual national partnership between them.” This came as a comment from the President of the Society, Dr. Wajdan Al-Aqab, on her signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Society for Environmental Protection and the Arab Open University in the State of Kuwait, which was signed by its Director, Professor Dr. Muhammad Sayed Muhammad.
Dr. Al-Aqab added, “This memorandum of understanding falls within the framework of supporting national initiatives to empower civil society organizations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in accordance with Kuwait’s Vision 2035. The environment is intertwined with most of these goals, influencing and being influenced by them, thus necessitating the integration of environmental considerations into all aspects of sustainable development.” She also highlighted the areas of joint cooperation under the memorandum, including “utilizing the facilities of both parties to deliver joint training courses and seminars.”.
The extent of the association’s contribution in providing support for initiatives in accordance with the regulations and bylaws of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Community Development,” she noted that “a memorandum of understanding serves both parties in the environmental field, scientific research and joint activities,” pointing out that “the university has made great strides in this field through the implementation of many global environmental initiatives in general and smart environmentally friendly initiatives in particular.”.
For his part, Professor Dr. Mohamed Sayed Mohamed, Director of the Arab Open University in the State of Kuwait, explained that “the memorandum of understanding signed between the association and the university aims to facilitate research and analysis of environmental information for decision-makers and researchers to gain insight and improve the quality of research and studies in the fields of development and planning policies, to establish a network of experts and specialists in the fields of environmental development, to facilitate the exchange of scientific and practical experiences between the two parties in these fields, to spread knowledge and awareness of issues related to the environment and development, and to provide databases and information in various related fields.”.
In the same context, Dr. Mohamed Sayed Mohamed reviewed aspects of joint environmental research publication with the association, the exchange of the database related to the subject of the agreement, and the extent of joint cooperation in launching joint environmental programs and projects, as well as working to support the Sustainable Development Goals, which is a message directed to everyone, that we have the right, responsibility and opportunity to change for the better, and to build capacities in the field of sustainable development,” in addition to “knowledge support in environmental consulting and research studies, and participation in the media campaign on social media sites for conferences and programs of both parties.”.
