Janan Behzad, Secretary General and Director of Programs and Activities at the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection, affirmed that “developing education and integrating environmental and sustainability concepts into all school curricula has become a pressing national necessity, given the increasing environmental challenges facing Kuwait, the region, and the world.” Commenting on the Society’s participation in the “Environmental Awareness Activity on Maritime Day,” organized by the Cultural and Social Committee of the Science Department at the College of Basic Education, Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, under the patronage of the College Dean, Dr. Mubarak Al-Tharwa, she stated, “Promoting environmental awareness begins in school. Including topics related to environmental protection, climate change, biodiversity, and natural resource management in school curricula contributes to building a solid scientific foundation for students and enhances their sense of responsibility towards the environment and society.” She added that “environmental education is not limited to the cognitive aspect, but also includes developing skills and behaviors that make students active participants in supporting the state’s efforts to achieve environmental sustainability,” noting the importance of integrating these topics into the curricula. She noted that “within the framework of promoting environmental awareness among students and spreading the culture of sustainability, the Environment Society participated in the event organized by the Science Department at the College of Basic Education entitled “Environmental Awareness Activity”, and pointed out that “the Society’s participation comes as an extension of its mission to support educational and awareness initiatives, and to enhance the role of students in protecting and preserving the environment. The event included field awareness activities aimed at introducing students to the importance of community engagement and their future role in protecting natural resources and preserving the Kuwaiti environment. In this context, Dr. Fadaa Al-Aoun, Head of the Cultural and Social Committee in the College's Science Department, stated that the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection's participation in the "Environmental Awareness Activity on Seafarers' Day" was a valuable addition that strengthens the department's goals of spreading environmental awareness among students. She emphasized that "this cooperation reflects the complementary role between academic institutions and specialized societies." She added, "Partnering with environmental organizations, especially the Environment Society, is a fundamental step in developing awareness programs within the college. It provides our students with practical, field-based experience and opens up broad horizons for them to understand the environmental challenges facing Kuwait and the world." She explained that "partnerships with academic institutions offer greater opportunities for innovation in environmental education, engaging students in projects and activities that develop their scientific and social skills, and supporting Kuwait's progress towards achieving the goals of Vision 2035 in the areas of sustainability and environmental protection.".
