The fifth season of the television series documenting and monitoring wildlife in the State of Kuwait

The head of the Environmental Protection Association, Wajdan Al-Aqab, confirmed that the association began, about three months ago, to carry out outdoor filming operations to monitor and document the components of wildlife in the areas covered by an educational documentary television program that represents monitoring the different types of environments in the State of Kuwait and the most important land forms and terrains to be shown daily on Kuwait TV screens during the upcoming Ramadan season, in accordance with its custom of enriching the visual library in the State of Kuwait with specialized programs on wildlife.

She explained that «the program represents one of the episodes of her documentary and educational program to monitor and document wildlife, which she launched five years ago and included the programs «Every Day a Bird, Every Day a Plant, Every Day a Wildlife, and Every Day a Fish,» noting that «the presentation of those previous programs included 120 daily television episodes that dealt, through about 700 to 800 minutes, with presenting the most important and prominent components of wildlife, the subject of each season,» indicating that «the total hours of work in preparing and completing those programs exceeded in one season about 400 to 500 hours of work, including about 60 to 80 field trips for monitoring, documentation and outdoor filming for each of those programs, in addition to the internal working hours in the Environmental Documentation and Media Center of the Society.».

Scientific meal
She stated that the program this season comes in thirty daily episodes, with each episode lasting from 5 to 7 minutes, and includes a scientific meal rich in information about the elements and components of wildlife in the site and region of the episode, announcing that each episode includes a visual presentation of its natural habitats and its relationship to Kuwaiti heritage, as well as a side of narration and historical description of those areas and their importance in Kuwaiti heritage.

Partners and supporters
Wajdan Al-Aqab praised the cooperation of several government agencies for their good efforts in many stages of the program’s work by facilitating the task of the association’s members in monitoring and documentation. She commended the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences for its support of the documentary and educational series of episodes for monitoring and documenting wildlife, and the logistical support of the association’s environmental partners, most notably the Ministry of Interior, represented by the «Committee for Monitoring Security Decisions, the Traffic and Operations Sectors, the Public Security Sector, the Land Borders Sector, the Public Relations and Security Media Department, the Environmental Police, and the Coast Guard,» the General Staff of the Army, the Kuwait Oil Company, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, the Environment Public Authority, and the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources.

Cooperation Protocol
She stated that utilizing the expertise of these security personnel falls within the framework of activating one of the clauses of the cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Interior concerning the exchange of environmental information. This aims to enhance capabilities in establishing a comprehensive and interconnected environmental database and information bank, enabling members of the association's teams and committees to perform their work in monitoring wildlife and environmental conditions in areas under the Ministry of Interior's jurisdiction, in coordination with relevant sectors. Furthermore, it includes participation in awareness programs (written, audio, and visual) presented to the community through various local media outlets and social media platforms. Wajdan Al-Aqab expressed her thanks and appreciation to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Lieutenant General Essam Al-Nahham, and to those in charge of the departments and sectors involved in cooperation with the association, for supporting, encouraging, and strengthening ways of cooperation between the association and the ministry, which will benefit Kuwait through participation in environmental and awareness-related projects.

Firefighting
Wajdan Al-Aqab explained that, within the framework of activating the environmental cooperation and partnership program between the Environment Protection Agency and the General Fire Department, the department provided its logistical support to the association’s team for the «fifth season of monitoring and documenting wildlife in the State of Kuwait,» whose thirty episodes are scheduled to be shown in the upcoming Ramadan season.

Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Makrad
Al-Aqab praised the directives of the Director General of the General Fire Department, Lieutenant General Khaled Rakan Al-Makrad, to provide all forms of logistical support to the Environment Society and to push towards developing the environmental partnership to advanced levels of cooperation in awareness and training programs, whether for the Department or the Society, which are concerned with developing and improving the capabilities of the members of both parties. She also praised the Deputy Director General for Human Resources Development, Major General Khaled Al-Turkait, for his keenness to activate the participation of firefighting personnel in many of the programs organized by the Society, as well as the participation of «Environmental Protection» personnel in the annual conferences and events of the General Fire Department. She added: «Distinguished personnel from the General Fire Department accompanied us during the monitoring and documentation trip for wildlife in the Mashash Biniya area in the southern region, known for its groundwater and adjacent to the Sabah Al-Ahmad residential area, where rainwater has accumulated since last November. The General Fire Department provided logistical support to members of the Environmental Protection Society and the team responsible for filming the television episodes. The department contributed by providing special inflatable rescue boats to reach vast areas of water pools and water accumulations following the heavy rains that fell on the State of Kuwait last November. The maximum depth of this water was recorded in the low-lying Mashash Biniya area at about five meters.».

Land border sector
Al-Aqab stated that «the program’s team arranged field trips to the border areas in cooperation with the administration to monitor the environments and their types and monitor the biodiversity in them, as they are protected areas and we find great biodiversity in them, praising the support of the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Land Border Security Affairs, Major General Sheikh Salem Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, for the work of the association’s members, and commending the head of the Al-Abdali sector, Colonel Bader Mufleh Dbeis, for continuous communication, and the leaders and staff of the Bahith Center, «where the field trip for the monitoring process began, due to their dedication to providing the highest levels of efficiency in logistical support to the work team in monitoring, documenting and following up on the environmental situation and the natural components of our homeland, in parallel with the association’s awareness roles in spreading and instilling the values of environmental citizenship among all sectors and groups of society.».

She emphasized «providing the highest levels of efficiency in logistical support and assistance by the sector’s leaders, officers, and members, in accordance with their duties and their great national sense towards the voluntary environmental work undertaken by the association in monitoring, documenting, and following up on the environmental situation and the natural components of our homeland, in parallel with the association’s awareness-raising roles in spreading and instilling the values of environmental citizenship among all sectors and groups of society.»

Ministry of Interior

The head of the Environmental Protection Society appreciated the directives of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Lieutenant General Essam Al-Nahham, to the relevant sectors in the Ministry to provide all forms of logistical support to the Society’s team tasked with completing the fifth season of its television series of episodes to monitor and document wildlife in the State of Kuwait, which is scheduled to be shown in the programming cycle for the upcoming month of Ramadan. Al-Aqab explained that the Ministry of Interior is one of the most prominent environmental partners of the Environment Society, noting that the departments and sectors of the Ministry, represented by the Committee for Follow-up on Security Decisions, the Traffic and Operations Sector, the Public Security Sector, the Land Borders Sector, the Public Relations and Security Media Department, and the Environmental Police, provide the highest levels of cooperation, each in its security field, in accordance with the directives of Lieutenant General Essam Al-Nahham to provide security approvals for issuing entry and photography permits within the border areas rich in wildlife components, in addition to providing protection and escort for the work team. She praised the cooperation of the Committee for Follow-up on Security Decisions in providing logistical support, and in this regard, she commended the support of the Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic and Operations, Major General Jamal Al-Sayegh, for the Society’s efforts and directing the staff of the committee to assist the Society, as well as benefiting from the expertise of its distinguished personnel, headed by Lieutenant Colonel Meshaal Al-Harbi, for his extensive knowledge of the desert and remote areas, in addition to the sites that were damaged by the heavy rains last November.

Program episodes
Wajdan Al-Aqab pointed out that the program's episodes were produced through work in more than one place, including nature reserves in the country and places of natural sensitivity. She emphasized that the program's team included distinguished and specialized members of the association's teams and committees at the Environmental Media and Documentation Center and the Wildlife Protection Committee, in addition to distinguished members of the association and its partners from national bodies and institutions. She noted that the team began about three months ago to implement and complete its successive and sequential work plan to accomplish the stages of monitoring, documentation and field photography at a rate of 8 continuous hours for each monitoring operation in any of the places that the association specified to accomplish the documentation operations in them, with a timetable of two to three consecutive days per week and in various atmospheres and changing climatic conditions.
