Coinciding with the announcement of high school graduation results, the Environmental Engineers Team of the Kuwait Society for Environmental Protection participated in the "Engineering Specializations Exhibition" organized by the Kuwait Society of Engineers. The team encouraged high school graduates in the science track to pursue environmental engineering, aiming to develop a national workforce capable of meeting the demands of "green jobs" and the government's sustainable development goals in the country. In a press statement today, the official spokesperson and Vice President of the Environmental Engineers Team at the Society, Environmental Engineer Yousef Abdulredha Al-Ramzi, emphasized the importance of this initiative in keeping pace with the job market, particularly after the Civil Service Commission included the title "Environmental Engineer" in its government employment plans. Al-Ramzi explained that “one of the most important objectives of studying environmental engineering is to equip environmental engineers with a thorough understanding of its concepts, tasks, and responsibilities related to the environment. This includes the ability to work on rehabilitating contaminated land and groundwater, preparing environmental impact studies for major infrastructure engineering projects, and possessing knowledge of renewable energy systems. Furthermore, environmental engineers design sustainable waste management systems, improve waste and wastewater treatment, address environmental degradation, provide sustainable solutions, combat global warming, and mitigate the effects of current pollution by reducing and addressing the environmental and carbon footprint in urban and rural communities.” He added that “environmental engineers are authorized and prepared to develop, implement, and monitor best practices and technologies that enhance sustainability and protect the environment. They are also responsible for identifying the best approaches and methods for addressing and containing environmental risks, offering appropriate solutions, and participating in the development of regulations that prevent and mitigate environmental incidents.” He explained that “an environmental engineer, through accumulated experience, is responsible for advising companies and government agencies on proper work systems and policies for disposing of waste of various types and levels of hazard, and for collaborating with other sectors specializing in sustainable cities and sustainable consumption. They also conduct inspections of facilities and factories to ensure their compliance with environmental policies, programs, and regulations.” He emphasized that “the future of environmental engineering is promising, as the Ministry of Higher Education’s commitment to including this specialization in scholarship programs for at least ten years provides academic support for this field. Furthermore, Environmental Protection Law No. 42 of 2014, through Article 119, which mandates the establishment of environmental departments in all ministries and agencies, supports this, confirming the readiness of organizational structures to employ environmental engineering graduates.” He concluded by saying… Al-Ramzi stressed that “the inclusion of the title of Environmental Engineer in the Civil Service Bureau is the last step in securing job opportunities that make the future of choosing this specialization job-wise secure,” adding, “Therefore, the team of environmental engineers in the Kuwaiti Society for Environmental Protection was keen to spread the call among high school students and encourage them to enroll in this modern and contemporary study that is intertwined with all areas of the global Sustainable Development Goals for the year 2030 and consistent with Kuwait Vision 2035.”.
