The Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KSEP) asserted that its efforts and roles in environmental education align with and support the plans and programs of relevant government entities, including the Ministries of Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research. Furthermore, these efforts are consistent with international partnership programs aimed at enhancing food security and sustainability. This was confirmed in a press statement today by Engineer Yousef Abdulredha Alramzi, Vice President and official spokesperson for the Society's Environmental Engineers Team, who outlined the Society's work in this area.
He noted that ”the Kuwait Environment Protection Society’s participation in the Second International Conference on Aquaculture and Biodiversity Conservation in Kuwait, organized by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research in cooperation with the Australian Embassy, towards achieving food security and resource sustainability in the Gulf region, which was held under the patronage and in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Nader Abdullah Al-Jalal, demonstrated the Society’s efforts in the field of environmental education through a lecture that documented many of those scientific, research and training roles and endeavors.”.
He added, “The Green Schools Program, which the association has been offering for 15 consecutive years, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, and which benefits no less than 3,000 students annually from public and private schools, has played a pioneering role in raising awareness of environmental education. Through it, awareness has been provided on no less than 18 environmental topics and issues in lectures, workshops, exhibitions, environmental science competitions, and the establishment of environmental clubs in schools, in addition to encouraging students to document their environmental participation in the environmental document, which is considered an environmental biography for the student.”.
He pointed out that “the association, through the Green Schools program, contributed to shaping the plans for overseas scholarships, noting that the state has a scholarship program to study environmental engineering, but there is no awareness of the importance of these specializations. So the association took action, and the experience is measured over the two years from 2015 to 2017, and it is still ongoing, so that the number of scholarship recipients increased from 5 students to 150 students in that period through raising awareness of the importance of studying environmental science and engineering through the activities of the Green Schools program directed to the eleventh and twelfth grades, in addition to the association’s efforts to adopt the title of environmental engineer and include it in the employment plans in the state.”.
Mr. Yousef Alramzi expressed the educational aspect of the Environment Society concerned with environmental education, saying: “The Society has contributed to reviewing the environmental curricula at the Ministry of Education and submitting proposals, in addition to the Ministry of Education’s approval of its proposal to include “November 6 – the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflicts” within the teaching plans. He also emphasized that “the Society’s interest in providing training for male and female teachers on climate change curricula and beach safaris in cooperation with the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Environmental Training has had a positive impact on the educational process by supporting teachers” efforts in providing educational tools and correct knowledge in this field.”.
Regarding community awareness of the environment, he expressed his “presentation of the awareness provided by the episodes of the documentary series on wildlife in Kuwait, especially those closely related to biodiversity and the diversity of terrestrial and marine environments, the Environmental Protection Law, and the Sustainable Development Goals, in addition to highlighting the roles and contributions of all relevant authorities in the country. The association is proud that the Ministry of Education has adopted the various episodes of the series as a scientific resource supporting the curriculum.”.
M. Alramzi pointed out that “the documentary series on wildlife in Kuwait documents national efforts in many areas, including food security, such as including the role of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources in supporting food security by encouraging and supporting fish farming, such as the episode on the seabream and the grouper, and the statement of the distinguished efforts of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research in scientific experiments for fish farming, such as the episode on the silver pomfret and the grouper, and the episode on the seabream, which highlights the prominent research role in producing hybrid fish to support food security,” concluding by noting the scientific environmental eagle in the Environment Magazine issued by the Society as part of reliable and comprehensive multi-dimensional environmental awareness.
